View Full Version : Anyone ever used a mini stepper?

Never even heard of these until a couple of days ago. My recumbent bike took a shit and is basically unusable now, I can't afford another bike or preferably a treadmill, and i'm too retardedly without rhythm and/or skill to do aerobics tapes. This seems to have gotten really good reviews. So has anyone ever used one? If so, did you like it? Why/why not? Worth the low cost?

Just get one of these. J says you need the practice anyway.

Fine. Steppers are for toning calves. And also for lazy asses who dont want to actually get off the couch. If your ultimate goal is ??? go buy a wii fit or a stepper and some potatoe chips. If you are trying toward some actual fitness goals I would suggest getting something that will actually have you moving you fucking whorebeast. (read: treadmill)

I agree with Rojo on this one. Walk a mile or two a day and skip the step machines. They'll just end up in your closet anyways.

So you're saying there's absolutely no cardio benefit to steppers? Because that's not even close to what i've heard from a couple friends who used them. I don't know what retards you know, but yeah I guess if they used it FROM THE COUCH, it wouldn't work so hot. And as I mentioned in the first post, I don't have the money for a treadmill. I would prefer one, sure. I'll totally buy one if you send me the money for it!

I'm not asking for suggestions on WHAT ELSE to buy. I'm asking if anyone has actually used a stepper (properly - read: not from the couch) and if so, what was their opinion on it.

I'm not trying towards any specific fitness goals. I try to get some cardio a few times a week, that's about it.

I appreciate your opinion, but you're 100% wrong. If it's good cardio, and from what i'm hearing it is, it'll get used.

Why spend money on something you get for free by simply going outside?

LMingrone
12-27-2010, 07:46 PM
How about you buy nothing, drink some water, eat some fruit, and walk around your block? It costs me about $1.25 a day (for oranges). I'm in no way trying to be an asshole, but eating some fruit, some chicken and greens costs me about $3 a day.

On a off day...eat a burger.

Because I like to work out in front of the tv and not outside where 95% of the time it's either 30 degrees or 100 with high humidity? I know, crazy.

So you're telling me that people don't need exercise? They only need to eat fruit? I'm not trying to lose weight, you tard.

I believe walking around your block constitutes exercise.

Did you miss the walking part? I wasn't saying this as the 28 year old I AM. I was thinking as someone that needs some rubber bands and stuff.

I walk, play basketball, and run. Some protein, fruit, and water is straight.
I must have missed the part where I said just eating fruit is the way to go. I should have said buying a shitty machine is the way to go.

And I almost forgot that you were the one asking for help. Don't ask next time.

OR there are some places that sell used equipment at an affordable price. I know when I lived in California we had some place called "Play it Again Sports.", I would consider looking into places that sell used equipment.

Just a thought if you really wanted a treadmill.

I dunno, I suppose it is like a mini stair climber which normally kicks my ass when I use one. It probably tones your thighs and calves more than giving you a high cardio workout, like a treadmill or bike would. It would be a nice start until you can afford a new stationary bike again.

Good suggestion. My wife got a used step at Play it again. Has 4 stackable steps. Think it goes up 3/6/9/12 inches per step added. Its less restrictive then that contraption shown. Let's you do more. I've tried it and its a decent workout depending entirely on what you put in to it.

how does this differ from any other workout?

Why spend money on something you get for free by simply going outside? The outside environment isn't always conducive to exercising. I switch over to indoor basketball in the winter, if I wasn't so overpoweringly masculine I would consider using a mini stepper.

I need running cardio, so I don't have any information on bike/stepper cardio. It's probably worthwhile? I'm Ron Burgandy?

Fair enough. It's no difference. I guess a treadmill might push you a bit more since its forcing you to move but you can always flick the switch and turn it down.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, to hold me over until I could afford another bike or a treadmill. One of my friends also said it's very similar to a stair climber which would work just fine. I'm not one of those people who enjoy exercise either, so something quick and easy I can do a few times a week, zoned out in front of the tv for 30 mins is perfect. This thing looks pretty damn easy to store/move around, too. Our apartment isn't huge, and lugging the bike back and forth from the spare bedroom to the living room a few times a week was a huge pain in the butt.

I'll check them out and see if they exist around here. I've checked craigslist but even those used treadmills are way overpriced (or just out of my price range).

I think you probably should've read my original post a bit better. I wasn't asking for suggestions of alternatives to the stepper. I was simply asking if anyone had ever used one, and if they had any opinion on it.

If I had said, "Hi guys i'm interested in purchasing this but i'm not sure if I should. Do you guys know of anything that might work better? thx", then your advice would have been spot on. I mean, seriously, do you really think I didn't know I had the option of walking outside? And why even mention eating fruit? I don't need nor did I ask for healthy diet advice. Give all the advice you want, but don't get all butthurt when I call you on the fact that your advice really didn't have shit to do with what I was actually asking in the first place.

Turns out Play It Again Sports has a store in Buckhead, so I think i'll go check them out before I make a decision on this stepper. If I don't find anything useful there i'll probably give the stepper a shot. ty ViridianAsp!

I jump roped a few days ago for the first time since I was a kid. I have some srs bsns exercise friends that swear by it if you're just looking to increase your heart rate indoors. That wal-mart stepper looks like it might accidentally you.

I did like how bitchy this stepper thread got though. Now I know about eating oranges when I can't exercise.

What kind of rope did you get? Mine gets caught on the laminate. So I might go back and get cloth. Anybody else try this yet?
