Does your job allow you to listen to music at work? If so, do you use external speakers, or do you use headphones of some sort? Do you use an MP3 player, AM/FM radio, streaming radio? I'd even like to know the type of speakers you use if you do infact use external speakers. I'm trying to get a sense of how restrictive employers are able music on the job.

Being in a lab, we aren't really supposed to be wearing headphones. Many do anyway, though, and pretty much everyone has their own computer with their speakers intact. In BSL-4 people blare music as loud as possible to hear it through the blue suits, which is funny, but probably dangerous.

I listen to music at work, I use headphones, and I stream my music on my Rhapsody account. However, theres no rule here against external speakers but using headphones I don't have to be sensitive as to what work appropriate music might be.

I listen to music pretty much any time I'm not on the phone with a client. No external speakers. Skull Candy headphones. The ear buds.

Rhapsody is pretty awesome as a music service.

I use pandora on my phone and my headphones, or I'll toss a CD in my laptop depending on what I'm wanting to hear.

I have a semi-private office, so I just use my speakers, generally while doing tedious tasks. I use Pandora or just my music collection via Media Monkey.

External speakers, usually plug up my phone or if I'm wanting to find new artists I'll listen to Pandora for a few days.

External 5.1 speakers and Pandora, with a quick kill switch to turn them off when the phone rings.

External speakers... mix of itunes, iphone and pandora. Usually shut it off, lower it when clients come in.

I'm usually sitting around on this random wall that keeps dirt from collapsing into the parking lot on top of this giant hill smoking all day until it's time to get off work.

Work is boring. Very boring. I can't wait to get the hell out of here. :(

Although chances are I wouldn't have a sense of humour either if I had a McJob.
But that was funny.

I encourage my customers to listen to music, if that counts.
My music. Not theirs.

Uh, you motherfuckers better stop fucking around in that lab of yours before some dumbfuck knocks some shit over and unleashes the zombie virus on our asses.

I really wish we made zombies here. Stuff might LOOK like the living dead when towards the end of a study, but they don't gain inhuman strength. They just tend to die.

I am the manager of a restaurant so I get to pick what plays through the sound system and how loud it is. There is a certain buzz to adjusting the volume level against the crowd noise and if the music I picked fits the night.

Most times I have it locked down pretty well. But sometimes the source for my music bombs on me big time.

My own mp3 playlist is a good backup but seems too short for me even with 100+ tunes. Maybe because I have heard it all repeatedly.

Headphones, mp3 player, a five second sample of Lady Gaga on loop for 6 hours. Sometimes pandora with headphones.

We share a ipod speaker/radio thing. The other side of the office is not allowed music, we have a grumpy old Doctor who likes things very quiet. On our side we listen to music from the shared stereo speakers.
