We all have our favorite local places but what about the combinations?

I have some combos that I have been ordering forever and want to change it up a bit. I’ll list some examples not in any particular order. Sometimes it does depend on the place as quality of toppings differ.

All time favorite topping: Pepperoni. Its genoa ham on spicy steroids and I can’t think of any other situation where it is appropriate to eat other than by itself. Pepperoni was made for pizza. It comes it large thin tender slices to hard thick chewy chunks. In every case I don’t think I have had a pepperoni I didn’t like.

All time favorite combo: Sausage and pepperoni. This is purely dependent on the quality of the ingredients and the pizza itself but I find this combo to be my most ordered.

Pepperoni and onion is another favorite. Or, pepperoni and black olive. Sausage and jalapeno is another.

While tempted to do the MEATzas I rarely do. If you have had one the taste of all those meats together isn’t so great. Its like meat mud.

When I do veggie its black olives, fresh tomatoes, onions, green peppers or any combination with pepperoni or sausage or both depending again on the quality of the choices.

Lately I have been trying meatball pizzas with moderate success.

I will not ever do shrimp or any other seafood, anchovies or anything, on pizza with cheese.

Oddest toppings I have ever seen was yellow corn kernals and green olives in Tel Aviv. But it was pretty good actually.

A lot of cultures put corn on pizza, and pretty much every culture has pizza in one form or another. In Brazil they put corn on pizza, even at the "Ureguayan Style" pizza places, (read: Chicago style, except served by the half-meter).

One of my favorites is a white pizza, paper thin crust, with gorgonzola and broccoli rabe.

There is a small restaurant in a town near me which is basically the hot spot for 40+ women on their lunch breaks. They aren't vegetarian but it has that sort of vegetarian/feminist feel to the whole place (maybe because I've never seen men in there without a woman and it is owned and operated by women). Either way, they make this banging pita pizza with gorgonzola, artichoke hearts, and red peppers.

Whenever my sister and I go out on lunch dates, this is where we go and what we get, except she gets a different one because she's allergic to mold cheese. BUT the point stands. Fucking great

TL;DR - Gorg/broccoli rab or gorg artichoke heart w/ red peppers.

I prefer pepperoni, or pepperoni/bacon. Once in a great while, pepperoni and pineapple. Alfredo pizza is good too, and might be my favorite but only a few places do it right.

There's a place on 14th and... 2nd I think, east village in Manhattan, that makes a mean artichoke alfredo pizza. It's called- predictably- Artichoke. Try it if you live in the area. Two nights ago it was freezing outside and the place still had a line out the door. Good stuff.

This place is the fucking antichrist. Line of hipsters and NYU students out the door at all times. The reason there is a line is because they only have one person taking orders. They take an order, fill it, then move on to the next person. It's obnoxious, and the pizza is sub-par.

If you want amazing pizza in NYC, go to Al Forno on 2nd Ave btw 77th and 78th.

Like Rob said, semi-uptown Pizzerias on Madison Ave. to 3rd'ish where you say "Extra Cheese" and you notice that there is a distinguishably noticeable amount of extra cheese.

I either go with straight pepperoni, or I go with the "garbage" pizza. It just depends on the place and quality of ingredients.

...thin crust is a must for sure.

After going to school I've found that I hate most pizza because its too thick and too floppy and I have to eat it with a fork. That is just unholy.

The three most important factors of a pizza are the crust, the sauce, and the cheese. If all three of those items are quality then the pizza will be good. When trying a new pizza joint get a small cheese pizza, if you like it chances are you'll like anything else you order, if you don't like it then you're out 5 bucks and it's time to move on.

We used to get Tony Maroni's Meat Feast Pizza on special occassions.

It was like $25, but we ate it like an antipasto plate - picked all the really, really good meat off and then ate the pizza with just sausage and pepperoni.

I get this pizza from a place down the street. It's a 36" square pizza covered with broccoli, spinach, black olives, green olives, sausage, pepperoni, bacon, jalapenos, pineapple, and sun dried tomatoes. That usually lasts me a week, but it is ohh so fucking good.

They just opened another branch of this across from my place on MacDougal. No lines ever yet (I've began waiting in line at the one on 14th twice and just left 5 minutes later) so I actually tried the artichoke for the first time. I thought it was pretty solid for a mutant slice.

Best pizza in NY is Joe's on Carmine st & 6th avenue. No toppings.

EDIT: Oh yeah also, Rob: officially 0/2 on possible NY meetups. It's okay dude, it's not like I want to meet people in the world who want to see Inarritu's Biutiful and fucking know all about the WEC. That's easy to find. DICK.

When I was in high school, once a week they'd let us leave the campus to get lunch from one of the nearby restaurants, and a block away was this pizza/sub place where I went for almost the entirety of my freshman year. Typical lunch? White pizza with spinach, mushrooms and broccoli. YUMMMMMMM. Sadly, that place and the dive two doors closer have closed up.

And I think my dad's birth in Chicago affected me, I much prefer Chicago deep-dish over NY-style. It's just harder to get the former around here.

Oh, and that reminds me, my favorite local "pizza place" is actually the Ukrop's Kitchen located in the Martin's grocery stores around central VA (Martin's bought out the locally-owned Ukrop's chain back in February, but as part of the deal they had to keep the kitchen and bakery, so while service has gone downhill and prices aren't much better, I can still get some good food). It's NY-style, but there's something about their sauce and crust, just a slice of cheese pizza is awesomeness. And they do a breakfast pizza, without the tomato sauce but with cheddar cheese, scrambled egg, sausage, ham, and, of course, bacon! Sometimes I'll pick up a discounted refrigerated slice around lunch or dinner time, if I'm low on funds.
