There's a terrifying European country that in 1941 plummets from a life expectancy of over 50 to under 25 years. Just staggering.

A thing he doesn't make totally explicit when talking about how wide the differences are is that the wealth scale is logarithmic. Even more staggering.

Is it just me, or would that be a heck of a lot more informative if it was just an interactive flash graphic on the web instead of having him zoom through the interesting bits (like when all the points simultaneously move to the left during the great depression) and focus on the boring parts?

For a statistician, he did an excellent job of presenting his story. That's usually the downfall of anyone in the mathematical sciences.

First thought was Austria but from the relative size I'm going to guess Italy.

I've seen presentations by Rosling before, in class. He's usually pretty animated and fun to watch.

Really goes to show how drastic is the change in *life expectancy* and the sense that human beings are generally "living too long" in the modern era.
