With the exception of, perhaps, Texas governor Rick Perry, no public official wants to publicly admit an obvious fact: The United States of America will likely be forced to invade Mexico. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. The question then becomes: What to do with Mexico after we invade it and wipe out the drug cartels (as much as can be). Does the United States merely return Mexico to a nation state of corrupt politicians, failed economic policies, and lawlessness, or do we annex Mexico and turn it into the 51st state?

It's been more than 150 years since the last time we were forced to invade Mexico. We got Texas for our efforts. Obama should definitely do it, but he's no President Polk. I don't think he'll have the guts.
When we do take over Mexico, the first thing we need to do is make English the official language.

I know you're a parody, but come the fuck on. We did not get Texas out of the Mexican American War. You and Rocktar must have gone to the same school.

The US absolutely should do this and rid Mexico of the drug cartels. We've done a fantastic job of keeping drugs out of the US and in dealing with our own gangs and violence issues. The next logical step would be to conquer another country and take the steps that have worked so well in our own country.
Conquering Mexico would solve another problem. We wouldn't need to worry about Mexicans illegally entering our country.

Oh, right. I'm the one who had this to say about The Onion:
This is stupid. I woulda voted for anything over that worthless organization called the UN. Of course this study comes from far left leaning organizations, they all think that people can't make any decision for themselves anyways.

Whoa there.
I had to read that twice to make sense of it. The first, time I read it, I thought you were advancing the discredited liberal revisionist history that wars of territorial acquisition never pay. The second time I read it, I realized I was right the first time.
Expansion by whatever means, including war and threats of war, was what Polk's successful presidency was all about. Texas and Oregon were our manifest destiny.
Texas was finally annexed when the expansionist James K. Polk won the election of 1844. On December 29, 1845, Congress admitted Texas to the U.S. as a constituent state of the Union.[69]
After Texas's annexation, Mexico broke diplomatic relations with the United States. While the United States claimed that Texas's border stretched to the Rio Grande, Mexico claimed it was the Nueces River. While the former Republic of Texas could not enforce its border claims, the United States had the military strength and the political will to do so. President Polk ordered General Zachary Taylor south to the Rio Grande on January 13, 1846. A few months later Mexican troops routed an American cavalry patrol in the disputed area in the Thornton Affair starting the Mexican-American War. The first battles were fought in Texas: the Siege of Fort Texas, Battle of Palo Alto and Battle of Resaca de la Palma. After these decisive victories, the United States invaded Mexican territory ending the fighting in Texas.[70]
After a series of United States victories, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the two year war. In return, for US $18,250,000, Mexico gave the U.S. undisputed control of Texas, ceded the Mexican Cession in 1848, most of which today is called the American Southwest, and Texas's borders were established at the Rio Grande.[70]

To review..
1845 - We offered to buy California and other territory from Mexico. After Mexico declined to sell, we annexed Texas. Based on some silly claims about an 1819 treaty that do not deserve to be repeated, Mexico continued to claim ownership.
1846 - President Polk sent a small number of troops to the disputed area. When there was a foreseeable skirmish with Mexican troops, Polk was outraged -- outraged! -- and gave a stirring speech saying that "duty and patriotism" required war.
1847 - After our righteous victories, Mexico signed a treaty relinquishing its rights to Texas and agreeing to sell California to us.
You're right we didn't get Texas out of the mexican war, but we doubled the size of it in the mexican war.
After the defeat of Santa Anna at San Jacinto, Texas declared itself it's own republic, and was recongnized by Britain, France, and the United States. In 1845 Texas was admitted into the Union, and became the 28th State. The border that Texas claimed extended all the way to the Rio Grande river, Mexico disputed this border and further disputed the independance of Texas all together. They thought of Texas as a terrirory in rebellion, that would eventually be retaken. The annexation of Texas led to the Mexican American War. The results of this war led to Mexico recognizing the border as the Rio Grande river. Texas remained the same size as it always claimed to be. The Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo gave the US undisputed control of Texas, and gave the United States Nevada, Utah, California, as well as parts of the present day states of Colorado, Arizona, Wyoming, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
