My laptop is giving me the crcdisk.sys error and who the hell knows where my recovery disks are, so I just want to install an easy to use Linux build that I can run Pidgin and Firefox on. Halp?

ubuntu is probably the most hassle free with lots of nub forum support. If you want to be hardcore though, install Solaris :)

I've actually used Solaris before, like in 1995. Not that I understood it.

I thought Gentoo completely compiled from source was most hardcore.

Even my grandma uses ubuntu... so if you can't use it, eternal mockery shall be your reward.
