I know Chevy's 2012 will have this option in their 2-wheel drive 1500s. But I think I could probably save some money and do it better myself. MPG should be pretty fucking good.
So I started looking around for 6-cyl aftermarket diesel engines / transmissions. I just started so I haven't really found anything as far as a drop in turn key solution.
Anyone ever done this? Got any tips, people in the know, yadda yadda yadda?

I built my own computer last summer. Should be similar.
All you need is a screwdriver and some cords.

And duct-tape.

What year is the truck you are working on?
Current engine?
Going to be standard or auto transmission?
4 wheel drive or 2?
Willing to upgrade/change the computer or just looking to get it reprogrammed?

4.3 v6, 2002 Chevy Silverado.
Was also thinking about buying a high mileage truck with good suspension / etc and dropping in a diesel. Sell the old motor and my old truck to cut some costs etcetera.
Either. Prefer auto.
Either, prefer 4x4 but 2 wheel drive would get better gas mileage.
Willing to upgrade/change whatever I have to.

Yeah I get this magazine regularly. Ordered a bunch of parts for my lifted 4x4 1979 Ford Ranger.

I recently built a PC in a milk crate and shoebox (Shoebox was for the monitor).
It has 0 screws in the entire construction, including CPU mount and fan.
Zipties are amazing.

Talked to some of my buddies and they said the best chance for a drop in diesel for you truck was a Duramax out of a 2500. Might have to change motor mounts and transmission cross member.
If you have very many salvage yards around, you might get lucky and find everything you need all at one place.

Transmissions too, possibly a torque converter. Basically the entire drive train. I researched it and found the answers I needed. Unfortunately its more work than I originally thought. Just can't fit it into my schedule.. soooo.. I found a 6.1 liter V8 2WD 2007 Silverado 1500, lowered 3/5, with a nice set of wheels and Z-rated tires with 15k miles on it for 18k from a private seller. Might be able to steal it from them for 15k.
