I know this probably has been talked to death, but I was wondering how many high level rangers wear hauberk as opposed to augmented chain. I plan on picking up stalking/hiding and ambush again but figured heavier armor might be a good idea too.. Any thoughts? Thanks :)

Depends on your casting/melee ratio. Covering the head gives you better head coverage ( Imagine that ), but covering the head also tanks your hinderance.

I am about to work my way up to hauberk for the head protection since my recent deaths have been head crits more than anything else. I am level 44 though so not sure how the higher level stuff goes and I am firing from the open. Hiding wasn't working out to great for me. Was mainly doing it for Grims but a lot of creatures usually spot me out if they are equal to higher level.

I'm in hauberk right now and the extra 2% hindrance is starting to really get on my nerves. If there's an AsG changing service, I'm going to convert it to augmented chain.

Spell hindrance is my biggest concern as well.
How does the changing service work? You are still protected in all areas but the hindrance is lowered?

No, it's a merchant service that will convert armor to another type of armor within the same group, i.e. hauberk to any other chain armor, MBP to another sort of plate armor, etc.

I'm in augmented chain at the moment and have worn hauberk. I will gladly take an occasional death from a head shot over losing the ability to get a spell off when it is really needed. I do use a lot of spells when I hunt so that is just my opinion.

I used to wear augmented chain, then hauberk, and now I'm wearing double chain because I value the 8% hindrance it has for my current pure path. It really all depends on what you're doing, what you're fighting, and what you can put up with. There is no "right" answer.

Augmented is what I wear currently also, and will never go back to hauberk.
I don't cast much, but when I do I want it to work. Im an archer from the open and ill take the few head crits any-day also compared to the hauberk hindrances.

I'm planning on going up to double chain. But I'm wondering, if I go up that high, I might as well go to augmented or hauberk, huh?

get up to double chain, and then get some more ranks and add leg greaves, if that works go up to augmented, and then the same for the head.. If your truly not sure and wanted to try them all..

As sad as that is, I can honestly admit, I never thought of that.

I ended up trying them all and I decided to go with hauberk. Thanks everyone
