I'm posting under an anonymous profile, and I want to conduct a survey on everyone's favorite parts of the game for a project I'm working on. Please respond to this thread truthfully, and please keep all answers based on current opinion. It is okay to have a couple of answers per question, but please try to keep it as narrow as possible. Thank you.

When I played, it was:

1) Cleric, most utility and still a good hunter (post Smite/Bane cjamges)

2) Giant, just for encumberance

3) Used to be the Landing, now probably Ta'I for convenience sake.

4) LOLWUT? I don't have any.

5) Paul's merchants were pretty damn good. Sproink was always a favorite.

1 Warrior, been a warrior for more then a decade why change now.

2 None , pretty much all of them have plusses and minuses

3 Landing, Loved it from day one, always been able to feel the history there moreso then the other towns.

4 Heh, I have a least favorite does that count?

5 Literally been to thousands of merchants thru the years, had by far the most fun with Bemm and of course Ninmah at Bones, nowadays the merchants seem to be throeaway personas and arent allowed to build the character folks like Fumbles, Breighton, Hortinger, Stovel and dozens of other greats did.

1.) Empath, because you can pretty much do anything as an empath.

2.) I've always liked forest gnomes because of their spirit recovery, + to wisdom, and logic, dex, and agi bonus.

3.) Icemule, just a close knit community but not too far off from the Landing where a lot of going-ons happen.

4.) Tallisker, he's just a level-headed guy who seems understanding of the players. There are a lot of other great GMs out there. It's sad that a few of them do such a good job at ruining the reputation for the rest of them

5.) Zanthie. I just think she's funny and her and her sister work really fast.

1. Wizard. All the utility built in with Haste, Rapidfire, Spellup Spells in a package of explosive meanness.

2. Elf. Nalfein rule.

3. Ta'Illistim. I'm too lazy to move else where.

4. Voraveil if he's still on staff. His merchants are nuts in a good way.

5. Zanthie. If she were real, she'd totally make midget porn socially acceptable.

1. What is your favorite profession in the game, and why?

Sorcerer, because I'm a masochist?

Seriously though... Sorcerer, because its what I have the most experience with and I like familiar things? No good reason really. In 1995 I rolled up a sorcerer because I got tired of shit turtling on my bard.

2. What is your favorite race in the game, and why?

Dwarves. fun to RP, cool clothing, mechanically superior, dead sexy.

3. What is your favorite town in the game, and why?

Teras - has an adventure feel, roads are straight and intersect.

4. Who is your favorite GameMaster in the game, and why?

Khaladon. For all the work he did at merchant events.

5. Who is your favorite merchant in the game, and why?
Bemm - because minis are awesome and I want more.

1. Bard. Useful spells at an early level and versatile with a variety of viable builds.

2. Elves. Good for the playing of bards! Also, a lot of fleshing out and documentation.

3. Ta'Illistim. Itzel's doing great things with making it more fun and lively than it's been in a long time.

4. This is a hard one for me. I love Voraviel deeply. Deep in the pants region. An inventive coder + quest dude + ability to laugh at himself and his creations (he brought Pokemon to GS, ffs). But you said currently and he's not all that active these days, despite our best efforts. I'm not sure he's even still doing anything with GS at all. A lot of GMs have doing some great things for me, been very personable, with every effort to improve the game, but that's in the past.

So... short answer is... Itzel. She's doing most of what I'm interested in and that's cultural documentation and expansion, and political RP questiness. I'm not very good mechanics-wise so I have little to no interest in that stuff. I'm interested in RP. She comes out with new verbs, fluff I find useful for my RP, and loads of expansions. Other people think it's a waste to build the Ta'Illistim Museum before monks are out or the sorcerous lore review is done but I disagree because not everyone plays for the same reasons and I appreciate that the GMs try to be as diverse as the player population.

5. I can't name a particular merchant. I've been to too many and I enjoy them for many reasons. But, what I like most in a merchant is speed if it's a unique service and they're the only one or one of the only ones providing it otherwise they can be distracted and I won't care, humor, and consistency in RP.

AKOE!

I'd say ranger, because it's difficult to really mess them up and you can sneak up on people without hiding, hehe. I guess bard would be second.

Sylvankind because they're just my favorite out of the elven races. Gnomes would be second :)

Landing. There's more people to interact with and I know how to find everything without a script.

The one with the raccoon tail hat. I always forget his name.. Perezz? He was always really friendly and understanding when I'd lose an item or mess up an alter.

Sproink. He's my favorite, even though he always hits me on the head..
"Can you lighten this?".. "NO!" Then I get hit with a stamp and pushed to the end of the line.. so wrong but I love grumpy merchants :)

1. Warrior, because my Alzheimer's makes me think I'm still playing GemStone III.

2. Erithians, because something about them says Oda Nobunaga.

3. RR, because between the days of the boot, becoming a Beacon Hall member and then Secretary -- And having folks like Karly from start to finish really helped me feel like part of a community. As well as greatly improved my RP and knowledge of lore.

4. I like all the GMs, pretty much equally. They've always been helpful and nice and awesome across the board. Only had problems with GMs when I was like 14 and acting like a 14-year-old.

5. My favorite merchant was Polto and I don't have a favorite merchant currently.

1. What is your favorite profession in the game, and why?

Cleric

2. What is your favorite race in the game, and why?

Dark elves, the arrogance is fun

3. What is your favorite town in the game, and why?

The landing will always be home.

4. Who is your favorite GameMaster in the game, and why?

GM Aelsidhe, she was truly awesome. Other notables, Brauden, Kennesaw. Of today, Mestys, Itzel, Sirinia, Oscuro and Estild.

5. Who is your favorite merchant in the game, and why?
I plead the 5th on this one obviously. :)

1. What is your favorite profession in the game, and why?

Warrior, it is GS on HARD mode.

2. What is your favorite race in the game, and why?

Dwarves! Really, nothing is more fun for drunken rp. That and they rock stat-wise.

3. What is your favorite town in the game, and why?

Kharam-Dzu, Teras Isle. Again, hard-mode and less people

4. Who is your favorite GameMaster in the game, and why?

Liia, because she loves Teras almost as much as I do.

5. Who is your favorite merchant in the game, and why?

Ironwright...he made my mattock epic.

1. What is your favorite profession in the game, and why?

Rogues, because they can be sneaky and subtle and can train a large variety of skills for relatively low cost. Also, I don't like magic.

2. What is your favorite race in the game, and why?

I'm going to go for halflings, though let it be said it's not because of the loathsome stereotypes about them which I hate (bouncy giggly halflings, tart gobblers, ones covered in jam and so forth - can't stand them). They're small and physically weak and so they often have to rely on subtlety, wit or charm to get them through adversity. Also because they appreciate the simple pleasures of life such as good food and drink.

3. What is your favorite town in the game, and why?

Wehnimer's Landing. It's where it all started and has a huge nostalgic and historic value to it. It's also surrounded with a great variety of interesting places and tends to have the highest population, which keeps things interesting (if sometimes for the worse). Being on the "frontier" is also always fun. Too bad I haven't spent any real time there in years.

4. Who is your favorite GameMaster in the game, and why?

I'm a horrible person who tries not to get to know any gamemasters real well or seek them out to acknowledge their work. It's always a bit, uh ... jarring, I guess? ... to have something extraordinary happen in-game and know who's behind it. It feels more like you're getting special treatment from a friend, and that cheapens the experience for me. That isn't to say I'm not grateful for what they do - I just prefer anonymity to improve the experience.

5. Who is your favorite merchant in the game, and why?

I think I've been to maybe three, and I don't recall who they were. I prefer common off-the-shelf gear so I don't have to worry about losing or giving things away.

2. What is your favorite race in the game, and why?

3. What is your favorite town in the game, and why?

4. Who is your favorite GameMaster in the game, and why?

5. Who is your favorite merchant in the game, and why?

1. Paladins are at the top, followed very, very closely by bards. Mostly because they can both generate a fuck-ton of AS and DS. GS on easy-mode, just the way I like it! (Yeah, they can get boring, but that's why I have other characters to play.)

2. Elves. I love the snootiness sometimes, the ancientness other times, and the nature affiliation that the Ardenai (which is what all of my pure elves are) have.

3. River's Rest. A bit of isolation, but not too isolated, awesome community, and just the right amount of stuff to hunt.

4. I've never had a bad run-in with a GM, so I can't bad-mouth anyone. My favorite GM would have to be Scribes. Silly him for having to step down!! :(

5. Sproink takes the top. It was always awesome to watch his RP with people who dared to be in his wagon for his merchanting. He was always very nice to work with too, outside of the Sproink-RP that was always expected.

1. What is your favorite profession in the game, and why?

Sorcerer. They have the spells which best suit my character's persona.

2. What is your favorite race in the game, and why?

Dark Elf. I find the cultures interesting. They are also arguably the best race mechanically for my profession.

3. What is your favorite town in the game, and why?

Ta'Illistim, for its proximity to Old Ta'Faendryl. I also like the feel of the town. It is more civilized (In the RP sense, adventurers aside) than any other available to us.

4. Who is your favorite GameMaster in the game, and why?

Coase. He doesn't BS, he just codes and codes well. Hopefully Tiqal will follow suit.

5. Who is your favorite merchant in the game, and why?

That Dhe'nar whipblade merchant at CCF. That is the first NPC Dhe'nar I came across. That eye guy doesn't count. He is a lunatic.

1. What is your favorite profession in the game, and why?

Rogue - Utility + Damage + Not being a caster

2. What is your favorite race in the game, and why?

Sylvankind. Lore on sylvans is still pretty open, allowing me to play my characters as I see fit, without having to read/adhere to a ridiculous amount of lore.

3. What is your favorite town in the game, and why?
I have two... one for IC reasons, one for OOC reasons.

Ta'Illistim - I really enjoy the lengths GMs have gone to interact with PCs in this town.

Landing - This town is still the center of the Elanthian universe. Its close proximity to a number of other towns still makes it the best social spot.

4. Who is your favorite GameMaster in the game, and why?

Kenstrom - I really enjoy role-playing with him and within his storylines.

5. Who is your favorite merchant in the game, and why?

Ledirth - He's a jerk, I love that. But please, for the love of God, stop with the hide-and-seek crap.

1. Tie between warrior and wizard. Love the utility of wizards, love the conceptual badassery of warriors.

2. I seem to gravitate towards half-elves a lot. Half-sylvans specifically.

3. River's Reset and Solhaven (though i haven't been to sol lately in prime, i hear it's gotten shitty)

4. Bazar. <3

5. Ironwright, even though i never got the blessing flares :(
Sproink, for the lulz
Sukhi/Sukara...for a complete and total disregard to alteration policies.

p.s. khaladon sux

5. Who is your favorite merchant in the game, and why?

Ironwright...he made my mattock epic.

Consequently, this just reminded me to check what forged things i had laying around for EG. I haven't looked at my warrior for a while.

Apparently right before i last quit i bought a golvern slab, lance, and maul glyphs.

TO THE FORGE BATMAN!

1. Ranger for sure hands down. Though I like warriors quite a bit.
2. Giants are great, but I like half-Elves too, they're pretty well balanced.
3. River's Rest and Icemule are definitely tops for me. Icemule for younger, River's Rest until about 60.
4. Don't have a favorite GM. My favorite Host is by far Blatt as per http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?t=40038
5. My favorite was the flirty one who recently came to do work after the East Harbor opened. I forgot his name, but he RP'd and the whole event was enjoyable. Not to mention he stayed until like 3am Pacific to finish everyone in the room.

1. Rogues, very versatile and for some reason I actually like smithing.
2. Faendryl, I think they have one of the most developed histories in the game.
3. Ta'Illistim, One of the most helpful cities in the game (players there) and close to OTF
4. Xynwen, She's always been super helpful and is great with alter ideas if you don't have one.
5. Tiffidy, Just for the 'I watched Tiffidy kill Tsin buttons she gave out a couple years ago at EG.
