Anyone care to share tips on this? I've tried searching but obviously am missing something.
I know there were some big threads on GoS when it was new, but can't seem to find 'em or stuff on the tasks, especially 10 ..

It is a random grim that is around 10 levels above you and you have to live for 5 mins in the arena with it. If you kill it you automatically win and can leave. You can also enter the arena, see your opponent and if you do not want to fight that class leave and try again after 10 mins. I reccomend trying for a square, the pures/semi's are nasty with spells like ewave, spike, web and clouds.

I've heard a lot of people have a hard time with this. I've only ever done it with an empath and sorcerer and couldn't tell you what type of grimswarm each was given, but the only failure I had was my own. I forgot I didn't have to kill them and ended up leaving the arena with about 1-2 minutes left because I was out of mana from trying to kill the bastard.
The whole thing is about survival. Use your defensive sigils and save your mana/stamina for survival skills. I'd suggest not even bothering with trying to kill them.
When I did this about lvl 80-85 on my paladin I got a rather nasty warrior that felt like it was capped... I literally crawled out of there with about 10 HP left after 5 minutes.
Squares + open roll maneuvers = hurt.
I had to tank myself with 102 and about every other spell I could wear and hoped I survived the maneuvers long enough.

I think I "cheated" and used blue crystals and feras with my rogue.

One of the most useful tools to bring with you is a haste imbed. Being hasted the whole time will help a lot with maneuvers.

I got a pure that was stupid enough to swing at me with a runestaff. I bashed his head in with one hit. They're more like 15 levels above I think.
it can be difficult.

Ah, okay, I'll be going in as a capped empath. Not sure what class would be best to go up against.
I've heard if you spell tank, not even worry about anything but defending and ride it out is viable. I've read you should be prone, but that sounds wrong..

Hmm, spirit strike is good, but where do I get a feras runestaff? (I kid,)
Or would I be better off using a spiked shield?

This.. You don't have to kill it. I done this with an empath that I kept turtled and if he got hit, he healed himself, a warrior that killed it and a ranger who spell tanked and turtled.
Face the Grim that you think you will survive against.

And if you are worried about cmans knocking you out of a defensive stance, use a ruby amulet and just stay prone. They don't use cmans on prone targets.

I did this yesterday @43 I suppose capped brings a whole new type of nasty into play
Tried first time died. Tried two more times self spelled, once got a square once a caster but it might have been a semi not pure dunno. The square stun locked me almost immediatley with maneuvers crawled out waited... repeat second webbed me bad same result. Went got wizzy spelled to the gills and bought a ruby amulet. Then killed the fourth shot.
I got a semi dont remember which though, basically just danced twice got a stun in and killed it rather easily once it was stunned so, while it was clearly well above my level I don't think they are exceptionally hardy. Best tip I got was actually if the fight doesn't start well just leave, come back.

oh another trick...carry a few junk weapons in ( dagger, crowbill, etc )
drop them on the ground...often times the critter will switch weapons
oh a wooden shield is a good idea too, if you get one with a lance/two hander, they'll often pick up the shield and just act like an idiot.
