Flare mechanics..

I'm curious on the final word if anyone knows exactly how flares work. I've heard from a reliable source that not all flares are the same, some do more damage than others, and I've heard all flares (except scripted) are the same and do all the same damage, on average. I've also heard that steam does not do well. Does anyone here know the mechanics of flaring weapons/armor? How does it calculate the crit rank/damage?

I've done lots of testing on flares seeing what they do damage/crit wise. From what I see, void seems to do more crit criticals but less damage. Steam seems to do the opposite. Lightning seems to be the best by far. I have recorded some hits. Most of these are biased because I keep a log of the best ones. I've never seen void flare up to 60 before. The highest I've seen on void was 50, several times, and on steam, 55. Of course there are advantages to the rare flares, disruption, void, and distintegration. They do good damage and nothing is immune, as well as no bad enviormental attacks. I would assume that since lightning is so powerful, it must have a downfall. It does , like others, such as fire in the bowels, lightning can explode on water in teras. Vibe and acid seem to work good and work good.

Thanks latrinstorm. I have a question about that. Do some creatures have resistence to all flares? I just took out a 500 war camp and got hit several times by grimswarm (orc). The flares did not do much damage at all. Most damage I've seen was 20. And most were only 5-10 damage.

I also noticed or it seemed to be that it flares better on creatures much younger than you than ones your level. Do you know any truth to either of these?

There is definitely a strong level component to flares, not just from weapons but ball flares as well. This will make it more difficult to sift out which flares do what, but it would be nice to get some numbers on the observed qualitative effect anyway, so if you can also get a ton of flares at like-level (or at least close to the creature's base level) that would be great. :)

I do not know if there are any creatures that are resistant to all flares.
