Base hit points are calculated by Strength and Constitution bonuses. I don't think race is taken into account any more than that.
edit: Now that I say that, I think it could be stats.

Each race has a base and can over the base with a max = base + CO bonus I think. So giantman base of 200 with a max CO would be 200 + 35 = 235 max HP. That doesn't include stat boosting items or such.

I have no idea what he means by base, I assumed max, as wtf would care about how much HP they start with?
GS3 Race Maxs:
Giant - 200
Halfling - 100
Dark Elf - 120
Half Elf - 135
Elf - 130
Sylvan - 130
Human - 150
Dwarf - 140
Edit: What Anticor said. Your CO bonus is added to make a final maximum if you're already at the standard max.

I'm reasonably sure gnome maxxes are sub-100, if I remember the official boards correctly.

Isn't there a divide by something involved in starting HP, though? I don't think there'd be any newbies running around with 50+ health.

hmmm strange, why would you want to know base starting HP for anyway...i'm more interested in the max HP although i've seen a dwarven warrior with 200+health so i don't know how its all figured

<<Stat bonuses/2 + Phy training = Total HP>>
That's how the formula works if you have no idea what you're talking about.
