I know there's been a person or two expressing interest in going back to school, and a few posters, myself included, have been waving the community college banner. Well, here's a firsthand example of why we're doing so...

This Summer, I was scheduled to take four classes at my University, with two classes in each Summer session. These four classes were going to cost just under $2100.

Today, I start digging around the local community college Summer schedules, and find that they're offering classes that transfer to my school and give me credit just as if I'd taken the class there.

Total cost?

$596. :D

Cool, peam! That is a healthy savings, to be sure! Community colleges really do have a lot to offer, and can serve very well as an adjunct to University, as in your case. Kudos to you for doing the research and saving a buck or two! :D

Took some CC courses during the summer a few years back, the girls were SMOKING. A blessing or a curse depending on what your goals are, I suppose.

Looks like NoVa's rates have gone up since I went there, it's now $63.58/credit. Still nice and cheap though. ($205.55/credit for out of state... ouch)

It should be noted that I'm an idiot and can't add.

Three classes would cost $596, four would be $775.

Still a good price!

Hence why I won't be taking any classes until I've lived here for a year. That's the residency requirement.

If I were you, I'd send in a FAFSA just for kicks. I'd be willing to say you'd get a healthy chunk of tuition, if not all, paid for.

Awesome Peam.

Your mind is like a parachute it works best when open.

B.T.W. I go to community college in the summer, take 2 semesters of summer courses, and add a few transfer credits to my roster.

What about the community college courses for you, Beth? Would that be more feasible?

NoVa = one of the best community colleges in the country

If you take Calculus II try and get Nawrotzky as your instructor, he was my math teacher in high school. Nice guy.

You might have to take out student loans somewhere down the line, but for Community College grants should eat up your costs and you shouldn't have to deal with loans till you get to the University level.

Its also based on your income.. so that is always a factor as well.

Does anyone know if FLorida offers that resident discount?

Edited: Schools in Orlando specifically.

All state public schools should offer in state tuition substantially lower than out of state, as far as I know.
