I'm thinking of selling a number of my comics I collected when I was younger. Probably my most valuable being the X-men series from the late 70's and 80's.
Anyone have an idea for how to organize and price these? Looking to do it all at once rather then a book at a time, as mine are all sequential.

Dude, you have no idea my issues ;)
I still have the original D&D rules, and the AD&D books...
I can see this thread evolving into a festival of us waving around our nerdly banners...
...and I like it.

"I PLAYED DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS IN HIGH SCHOOL!..."
Heh, good movie. I have some x-men cards somewhere from when I used to collect them. In 4th grade me and my friends used to make comics during English class, and it counted as work for some project, it was awesome.

Jon Favreau was on Howard Stern a few days ago talking about how he used to play D&D. They tried to act interested, but they were kinda goofing on him. Very amusing.

It is kinda tough to sell off comic books to dealers as they'll try to low ball you.
You can try to sell it on Ebay(check for pricing there too) but it is more of a hit or miss deal. Make sure you include all the keywords and you might get lucky.
I'm not sure any price guides operate under bulk so you'll just have to go one by one.

I hate to say this SHM but you may have to just price all your commics through a price guide (i know ya got tons) and total that up and get a rough estimate what you want for them. or maybe just price the really good ones and price all the others for a little more than the cover price.

What MP said.
Easy way out of course would be to take the collection to either a shop or a show and see if someone wants to buy the collection as a whole, but you wont get as much for it.
My brother sold only a few boxes of his rather large collection and he did it that way and never stopped bitching how he got ripped off later.:P
So i guess this is one of those times there is little to do but bite the bullet and put in the legwork.

I'm in the same boat as you SHM.
I stopped collecting around the age of 21.
I've got every x-men title from the 1st series x-men starting at issue 22 up until 1994.
Pretty much every image title, most valiants, kitchen sink press. Misc marvel and DC titles.
I have just under 10,000 comics.
My only saving grace is a friend of my wife. I could sort and sell for the next two years on e-bay or I could take them to a dealer and maybe get 15% of what they are worth.
My wife's friend does nothing but e-bay crap and she's happy to take 30% and do the sorting, listing and shipping.
So I'm packing everything, including the trading and magic the gathering cards, and shipping this crap off with my wife this weekend.
Since I'm not doing any of the actual work I can only offer e-bay or flea market type settings. Stay away from the dealers or you'll be crying.

Note to self: Find out where Tsa'ah lives. Make love to him, and then steal his comics.

You'll need a bigger rack and less hair.
I recommend waxing.

I'm in the same boat, I've got thousands of comics myself. I started to organize them and price them (using Wizard magazine.. its a comic price guide for those who don't know), but then got all nostaligic and ended up keeping most of em. Your best bet is Ebay for sure.. comic dealers are con artists.

I've been down the nostalgic road at least five times since my youngest was born.
I had a part time home away from home in a bookstore while I was in high school. Eventually the owner gave me part time job and paid with comics. That's how I got most of my x-men back issues.
Every time I would get the bug up my ass to get rid of my collection, I would start reading and then pack everything away again. This time I just shoved everything in the back of the jeep and tossed my wife the keys.
I'm going to be kicking myself in the morning, I just know it.

I think I'd rather pack them all up and go to some sort of convention to sell them then get stiffed for 15% of the total value.
