View Full Version : Jim DeMint Lays Out the Standard for Teachers

Speaking at a Greater Freedom Rally at Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Friday, Senator Jim DeMint set out a basic standard for teachers that we should enforce when we regain control of Congress.

DeMint said if someone is openly homosexual, they shouldn't be teaching in the classroom and he holds the same position on an unmarried woman who's sleeping with her boyfriend — she shouldn't be in the classroom.

“(When I said those things,) no one came to my defense,” he said. “But everyone would come to me and whisper that I shouldn't back down. They don't want government purging their rights and their freedom to religion.”

More... (http://www.goupstate.com/article/20101002/ARTICLES/10021004/1002/SPORTS04)

Letting homosexuals and unchaste women be teachers infringes on our freedom of religion. DeMint hasn't commented on unchaste men.

My bullshit detector just blew up.

I know you are in the religious dark ages, but damn. What's next, don't let fat people teach because, based on the same logic, being fat must be one of the seven deadly sins? How about anorexic people, or anyone that has committed adultery, or used profanity or coveted and so on?

We don't have enough teachers now and it is paving the road to our ruin and you want to exclude teachers based on ignorant religious stereotypes? Good plan and even better troll.

We don't have enough teachers because the government can't afford to pay for more.

Truly are a graduate of the Paradii school of trying to look cool by passing by, adding nothing but trying to bash on me so you can look cool. You are completely and totally pathetic, why don't you go collate some paperwork for someone important?

If there wasn't enough paperwork to end up with 1+ administrators for each teacher, then maybe it would change. Of course people would actually have to consider education important over things like NFL, WWE and Budweiser. Just one more symptom of over all social decay.

My understanding of the data:

Teacher emloymment has doubled in the last 40 years while enrollment is up 10%.

I would push back on the assertion that 'we don't have enough teachers'.

It's certainly possible that we don't pay enough to attract the teachers we might want to educate our children.

One can review the data at the digest for education statistics, which is a government website.

My bullshit detector just blew up.

Why would you assume it's false? It's perfectly consistent with what we stand for. If you just click on the "More" link, you'll see that I'm not making it up.

To a degree. The support staff and administration bloat is the biggest problem in a lot of places. Finland, for instance, who's kicking our ass in the NAEP with only slightly greater % expenditures has many more teachers but many less administrators and 'specialists.'

I don't understand your argument.

From the data source I listed before:

teacher/student ratio (http://nces.ed.gov/programs/digest/d09/tables/dt09_064.asp?referrer=report)

I did a quick check of the OECD countries and Finland has a higher student to teacher ratio than the US (but a slightly lower class size).

OECD data (http://www.cesifo-group.de/pls/guestci/download/CESifo%20DICE%20Report%202009/CESifo%20DICE%20Report%204/2009/dicereport409-db6.pdf)

We are in 100% agreement that administration bloat is a large impediment to delivering quality primary education in the US.

Odd. I had literally the opposite claimed to me in class. I'll ask for a source.

Apparently hinges around just how you view inclusion, according to the prof.

We have a part-timer from Wal-Mart do that.

Good, since they are downsizing their workforce in response to the higher minimum wage laws, they need the work. Too bad it doesn't apply to me since I don't work there any longer. So, if you don't collate papers and you don't collate date, what do you "analyze" as an "analyst" to justify your pay because pretty much across a bunch of threads you have discounted doing just about everything that the typical "analyst" position does and calls for in job descriptions.

At no point did I say it was false or that you didn't believe in it, only that I think it is bullshit and a very poor/untenable position to take.

MY religion says half of all dudes should bang each other and the other half should bang every chick they come across.
