This past summer we have seen crazy amounts of stink bugs. Just curious how widespread this invasion is. I’m in the Maryland, North Virginia, DC area.

Anyone else seeing massive amounts of these clunky and heavy though small insects? Shout out where you’re at.

I don’t know why they are called stink bugs because I have never smelled anything unusual when they are around. They will however squirt hydrochloric acid in your face. (maybe not hydrochloric acid and maybe not your face but they do release some chemical that is mildly itchy when you squish them.)

All over the MD area. I thought I heard they were an invasive species from China.

From what I understand, this bug accidentally arrived from China, or Japan ... I can't remember which, like a decade ago. Like the damned Japanese beetles (not brought here a decade ago, but still) that destroy my garden every year unless I Sevin them to death ... and that's REAL healthy when you eat those fresh snow peas. Friggin bugs. Friggin gardens. I'm glad a frost is coming soon.

There are, of course, regular old stink bugs. They stink, but they don't really look like the one talked about here.

Our house was pretty much covered in stink bugs here in southern PA until the rain yesterday smacked them off.

I agree, and I won't complain about the crickets either! Those bugs are yucky!

One of these bastards invaded our office this morning. On the bright side, it was a nice 2 minute distraction from work as we tried to corner it.

Their mouthparts are pretty serious, but I've never met anyone that has gotten bit by one. But these little gregarious fuckers get run over in bunches on the roads, more come over to eat their fallen comrades, get run over themselves, more land, more run over, more land, more run over, and the next thing you know, there is a red slick of cricket guts covering the entire road. And it's slippery as ice.

When I was a kid, I would pick up any bug I found and fuck with it until it bit me. I clearly remember grasshoppers/crickets being among one of the ones I marked in the "do bite the shit out of you" category, with a side category of "will spit disgusting smelling liquid on you" as well.
