I'm all about trying to save this game like everyone else, right? Right! So I heard an idea about having items for these newcomers to have for themselves via the twitter/facebook idea.. Well I have a few accounts and plenty of room to have a few characters to just be mules for items, nothing expensive, just some 0-4x weapons, armor, some containers, nice lockpicks for young rogues, etc. I remember when I started playing and had no coins or items or anything and it kinda sucked.

It's nice having enchanted weapons/armor/shields to help you get through the game. If this whole twitter/facebook idea works as planned, which I hope it does, I thought it'd be nice to have a certain someone they could go to if they needed help equipping themselves, hunting, advice on society and guild memberships and how to advance in them.

I've created a couple giants on one of my accounts that could hold onto these items for any of these newcomers who needed some better equipment. Some of you may not know me but I've been playing this game on and off for the past 14 years and I have a ton of people who would vouch for me.

In closing, I'd like to say, I myself have already donated a ton of 1-4x items for these newcomers to use to enhance their experience. I'd like some input on this idea, so if anyone has anything to say speak up, whether it be 'Hey Moreno that's a great idea!' or 'your stupid your idea sucks!'.

Thanks, Moreno.

While I respect this idea, the Mentors would be more suited to this sort of thing, and they have donation bins.

I think it might be a better idea to start flooding the mentor donation bins with those random items. And encourage mentors to get rid of them.

You know i've always wondered about that. I've had plenty of characters I've rolled up. Sometimes I've gone along my own way ,sometimes went ahead and did the newbie route asking questions, etc.
Many times I've had mentors stop in to ask if I need assistance or help in answering questions, but I've never once had them offer or ask if I would want or need an item or any items.
I know at least once the mentors have had a giveaway event. I believe you had to tell a joke, story, etc and could choose something in that room they had stockpiled.
Anyway just curious what happens to all the items, junk and non junk that gets put in the bins.

Junk gets tossed, items worth saving go into a storage room for later use.

Sometimes events are held to parcel out items, but mentors can also dole out small items from the store at their discretion - I passed out more than a few drake weapons and the like when I was a mentor.

let new players figure out the game and enjoy earning their new gear.

The Mentors do try to have those rummage sale events, though I'm not sure how often they occur now. They're also free to give out donated items to newcomers.

I like your idea Moreno, just that the Mentor already have a system in place to make it happen and the (practically infinite) storage capacity to do it without needing multiple characters and accounts which would need to be sorted through, logged in/out etc.

You should apply to be a Mentor though! hehe, then you can help put the donations to good use. If this Twitter advertisement idea works out I suspect the Mentors will be a bit busier than usual, and that would be pretty awesome. I'd have donated to it if I hadn't been unemployed for the last few months :(

I hope the stuff dropped in there gets used, when I closed my account last time I dropped everything every character had in prime into that bin, lots of stuff from the original dhu, amulet holders, weapons from '93 or so...

I figured it was no worse than tossing it in the well, at least it would have some kind of chance of use & not collect dust in a locker.

It does get used.

Just an teaser for the Halloween Holidays. I believe the Lorekeepers are planning an event. Basically a "Trick or Treat" where some of these donations will be handed out in bags and so forth to new players.

It's still in the works, but keep an eye out.
