View Full Version : Scent and opposite Sex
Alright so I met the most awesome person in the world. Best attitude, she thinks for her self, non-religious, gets my wit (yeah I know I don't really show it on here). So she finds everything I do funny, I find everything she does funny, well a lot of things.
The problem is, I can't stand her scent, and although she is pretty, I am not attracted to her, and I can't get aroused/turned on around her. She smells like my friend danny, and I can't stand the way he and she smell. It's nausiating (spelling? yes spelling) to me. Other people can't smell it and have no idea what I'm talking about.
It obviously is not going to work, and there is no way I am going to tell her. I've started to try, but it really sucks.
Anyone else click with someone very well but can't stand their smell or there is just no chemistry physically?

Buy her some perfume and make her wear it. If that doesn't work, falcon punch her.

Wow, that totally sucks. But I'd think it would never work. :(

Yeah secks is definetly important to her and I. Love hanging out with her, but i hate "hanging" around her!

Yeah she works at a zoo, she definetly doesn't wear perfume, but it wouldn't matter. It's her BO. And its not bad BO to anyone else, just to me. Also, I hate you.

I met people that smelled funny/very unappealing to me but I'd never really wanted to date them or anything.
I've definitely noticed variations in how much I like the natural scent of partners, though, and it's definitely tied into the raw chemistry I have with them... the more I like how someone naturally smells, the more I get the spark/seeing stars/punch to the gut feeling while in any way intimate with them. Honestly, I don't think there's any way around it, though.

Not sure who did the study but we were talking about it in psych the other day. Basically a scientist made guys wear the same shirt for two or three days without washing or wearing deoderant. Then he put them in a box and made women smell them. The women said they were attracted to certain shirts and not others.
The scientist genetically tested the people and found out that the women who were strongly attracted to a specific scent were genetically different than the man who wore it. Leading him to believe that we are attracted by scent to the people who have different immunities and such to us, in order to make the strongest offspring.
TL;DR - Not liking her smell MAY = her having similar genetic immunities and such to you so you wouldn't make good babies.
Or she reeks.

Yeah my friend in med school kinda told me the same thing. She doesn't reak. But it has to do with some type of evolutionary thing so that we don't mate with someone who has too many similar physical characteristics and have retarted babies.

Ask her if she eats a lot of curry.
Or just ask her what she eats.

Sex in the shower. Also, if you do mad anal and made her have a prolapsed anus, maybe things would smell like poo, and less like her BO? And possibly vomit...
I suggest since she's looking for the cock, and you're unable to get it up (try viagra?), have her post in the topless thread, and maybe she'll get picked up by someone on here, who has a lack of olfactory glands.
Jus' sayin.

Funny you ask. I never did. He is one of my few straight guy friends I never had sex with. We are still very close. He's one of my favorite people on the planet.

I've heard along the same lines as GR. She doesn't smell and it's not like your sense of smell is wrong, it's just an incompatible combination.

That reminds me.. a place I worked at, someone brought in a small roll-on stick of phermone-activated perfume. Everyone has a unique scent depending on their body chemistry, etc. So we were all putting it on and smelling each other and one girl, it smelled so bad I had to fight not to gag. No one else seemed at all effected by it but it smelled like floral compost to me. Yuckkkk.

I feel obligated to post this full Q&A from Savage Love (http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/SavageLove?oid=4832699) last week. I feel it might both enlighten all of you, plus introduce some people to Savage Love. Enjoy.
I'm a single male in my mid-30s who over the years developed an incapacitating fetish. I can only get fully aroused when smelling the odor of maple syrup. When I was younger, it was not a problem getting aroused without it, but as I got older, I inhaled the scent while pleasuring myself, and now I can't perform without it. I have tried to wean myself to no avail.
What should I do, short of taking all my dates to the house of pancakes and "accidentally" spilling syrup on them? I don't think it would be fair to require such a thing from anyone and would not expect it to be tolerated in a long-term relationship. Any advice?
Odor Regretfully Generates A Sexual Malady
Dan's response:
Look, ORGASM, the human brain is an inscrutable bag of slop, and you aren't the only person out there whose brain saddled him with a seemingly random sexual fetish. But you shouldn't view your fetish—assuming you're not making this up—as "incapacitating." You could be into things that were much worse and/or more complicated and/or literally impossible to realize. Nor should you blame yourself for your growing reliance on your kink. As we age (men particularly), we tend to lean more on those things—fantasies, fetishes, scenarios—that help us get there and get off.
Stop viewing your fetish as some sort of freakish ailment that disqualifies you from love and affection, ORGASM, and start viewing it for what it is: an endearing quirk and not too much to ask from a long-term partner. People in love and people in long-term relationships—two distinct groups with some significant overlap—like to say things like "I would walk through fire for him" or "I would take a bullet for her." Well, all you're asking is for a tiny bit of maple syrup dabbed behind the ears before sex. It's not fire, it's not a bullet, and it's not too much to ask.
You're welcome.

Have you considered that maybe she is your friend Danny, and Danny knows you will never accept him as a gay man? Have you ever seen the two of them in the same room together? I think this needs to be addressed in an open and honest format.
I don't have a sense of smell and rarely regret it. This included.

I once lived for two weeks in an indian run motel... and you know what? Once I got used to the curry smell, it was a pretty nice place. They always cleaned up after me and never stole a fucking thing... I intentionally started leaving things around to entice them to steal, but not so much as a roll of quarters was taken.

Edward doesn't like Bella's smell because she's delicious smelling and it makes it hard for him not to rip her apart and drink all of her blood.
