I have a passion with milk, I adore milk, I drink milk with almost everything. I eat chocolate, I drink VERY cold milk. For my hardcore moment, I drink skimmed chocolate milk.

Milk is okay, but I get sick if I don't drink it slowly for some reason. :(

Corporate-owned factories where cows are warehoused in huge sheds and treated like milk machines have replaced most small family farms. With genetic manipulation and intensive production technologies, it is common for modern dairy cows to produce 100 pounds of milk a day— 10 times more than they would produce in nature. To keep milk production as high as possible, farmers artificially inseminate cows every year. Growth hormones and unnatural milking schedules cause dairy cows' udders to become painful and so heavy that they sometimes drag on the ground, resulting in frequent infections and overuse of antibiotics. Cows -- like all mammals -- make milk to feed their own babies -- not humans.
Cow's milk is an inefficient food source. Cows, like humans, expend the majority of their food intake simply leading their lives. It takes a great deal of grain and other foodstuffs cycled through cows to produce a small amount of milk. And not only is milk a waste of energy and water, the production of milk is also a disastrous source of water pollution. A dairy cow produces 120 pounds of waste every day -- equal to that of two dozen people, but with no toilets, sewers, or treatment plants.
In Lancaster County, Pa., manure from dairy cows is destroying the Chesapeake Bay, and in California, which produces one-fifth of the country's total supply of milk, the manure from dairy farms has poisoned vast expanses of underground water, rivers, and streams. In the Central Valley of California, the cows produce as much excrement as a city of 21 million people, and even a smallish farm of 200 cows will produce as much nitrogen as in the sewage from a community of 5,000 to 10,000 people, according to a U.S. Senate report on animal waste.
Dairy products are a health hazard. They contain no fiber or complex carbohydrates and are laden with saturated fat and cholesterol. They are contaminated with cow's blood and pus and are frequently contaminated with pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics. Dairy products are linked to allergies, constipation, obesity, heart disease, cancer, and other diseases.
The late Dr. Benjamin Spock, America's leading authority on child care, spoke out against feeding cow's milk to children, saying it can cause anemia, allergies, and insulin-dependent diabetes and in the long term, will set kids up for obesity and heart disease, America's number one cause of death.
And dairy products may actually cause osteoporosis, not prevent it, since their high-protein content leaches calcium from the body. Population studies, backed up by a groundbreaking Harvard study of more than 75,000 nurses, suggest that drinking milk can actually cause osteoporosis.

I use soy milk. I don't drink either one. (well... I drink chocolate soy milk) Plain milk = gross. My mother made me drink it as a child.

Went to a slaughterhouse at 16. There was girls screaming and all with us, ahh it's so evil, bla bla bla, poor pigs.
When leaving the slaughterhouse, a couple of friends and me went to a steak house.
Moral of the story: booh em, we're the highest part of the pyramid:)
I don't freak over milk. I use it to cook and if I'm out of soy milk, I'll use it on my cereal. I just don't like to drink it. When I was little, I would let it sit to the end of my meal thinking my mother wouldn't make me drink it. I had to stay at the table until I finished it. By then it was all warm. (yes... I was stubborn) So, I grew up not liking to drink it. I say if you enjoy milk... drink it!
One thing I do about once a year (my mom used to do this too about once a year also) is to get unwhipped heavy cream and pour it over chocolate ice cream. The cream gets all hard. Oy, the fat grams! But it sure is good and very rich. (see... not totally anti-milk products... I can clog my arteries with the best of them!) I love the creamy taste.
I use Silk soy milk. It is always refrigerated. I still don't like to drink it plain... soy or regular.

You can probably guess from the excerpt that this comes from Borden's website:
What is Condensed Milk?
Borden's Eagle Brand Condensed Milk is pure cow's milk properly combined with unadulterated cane sugar.
The milk which is used in Eagle Brand is fresh, pure, full cream milk from healthy cows. The cows are examined and the dairies carefully inspected at regular intervals. The condensaries are located near the dairies, which makes it possible to receive the raw milk in a perfectly fresh state.
The laboratory system maintained by the Borden Company insures milk of an even higher quality than that required under the government pure food laws. From each can of pure raw milk delivered to the plants, a sample is taken and immediately tested by experts to detect the slightest deviation from the required standards.
The milk, having passed the inspectors at the condensary, is put into heating-wells where it is subjected to a temperature of about 206 degrees Fahrenheit by passing a jet of live steam through it. This degree of heat is held for about five minutes in the heating wells. The milk is then passed on to sugar wells where it is mixed with pure sugar which is added for the purpose of preserving. This mixture is then run into vacuum pans where it is held at a temperature of not more than 140 degrees Fahrenheit for a period of from 1 to 1 1/2 hours, the temperature being gradually lowered until the batch is finished. By this process the growth-promoting properties of the milk are not lost, and the fresh milk and pure sugar are properly blended. The finished product is run through the cooling system, and then into the standard size cans as sold in stores. From the time the milk passes into the vacuum pan until it is sealed in the can every possible precaution is used to prevent contamination and oxidation.
To further insure the quality of this health food, sample cans of Eagle Brand Milk are taken from each batch and incubated for one week, or longer, at our home office laboratory, to determine whether there has been any bacterial growth since the first test made at the plant immediately after condensing. This final test is a check on all previous tests. Milk-born epidemics have never been traced in any way to Borden's Eagle Brand Condensed Milk. It is an absolutely safe milk supply. Clean milk kept clean--is the Borden Ideal.

TOK,
While I understand that your motivation is heartfelt, your methods are having the opposite effect than intended.
I am assuming you are trying to bring people about to your point of view as if you are not, then you would simply be here to insult people and thats a rather lowbrow waste of everyones time.
This seems to be something you feel strongly about and the fact that others cannot see what seems so clear to you may be frustrating, but when your message gets lost in what seems an overly haughty, and at times condescending delivery it will have the opposite effect.
Tell you how I see it.
I like milk and I'm not going to stop drinking it but I also am not in favor of animals being hurt needlessly. Perhaps you should be working at helping a more animal friendly dairy become more succesful if this is so important to you. Offer people an option instead of just railing at them.
At the least change the tone of your posts if you are really wanting to get people to listen to you, because all you are accomplishing here is turning people off.

I drink more water than anything though but that's because Indiana doesn't have SWEET TEA! Having family that was raised in the South and then being stationed in NC kind of made me dependent on the stuff.
I still don't understand the arguement that milk isn't for humans though. Sure the moron in the movie "Snatch" said the same thing but other than that I've heard no real beef about it. Ok, now you're talking out of your ass and showing your ignorance at the same time.
Give me one study that shows milk is not nutritious and I'll give you 10 that scientifically shows it is.
I'll accept your argument about inhumane corporate farms. Dairy farms, egg farms, livestock... you name it. The larger they are the more inhumane they are. Whoopity fuckity doo.
Let's talk about the soybean munchers and hypocrisy. They want to raise this banner about how cruel it is to eat meat, how cruel it is to wear leather, how badly dairy cows are treated, how crowded chickens are at an egg farm, what they will not address is the season destruction of habitat.
That's right, every year us farm folk roll out the combines to harvest the corn, the beans, the granola, the oat and wheat, we kill BILLIONS of animals that have made our fields their habitat. Many a species of birds, field mice, fox, deer, squirrel, snakes, raccoons, chipmunks, rabbits.... the list is long.
That number easily EASILY doubles after harvest. Those that aren't killed during the harvest die off because of exposure, starvation, or by very fat natural predators.
Hey, let's not get in to how many trillions of insects are killed.
Let's also think of the erosion, the water contamination, the pesticides, herbicides and topsoil lost on the billions of acres of farmland. Talk about a potential eco-disaster.
So do me a favor, belly up to the bar and order a nice tall soy shake with barley sprinkles, have a nice fat cake of tofu with a side of sprouts and think about all the millions of animals that died in order for you to have a clean conscience you fucking mouse murderer.
Me, I’ll stick to my 7 gallons of moo juice a week, my thick steaks, my whole chicken, duck breast and lamb. In nice riding weather I’ll put on the leather jacket and gloves. On evenings with the wife I go with the leather trench and a nice prime rib dinner. I’ll do it all with a smile to, cause I’m not offended by the cycle of life.

Once I felt of a tree which was as high as a 3 stories building. Just a few bruises.
Strong bones rock, being in shape rocks, HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORAH for the milk!

Tsa`ah, we're discussing milk, not meat. I know you're fond of informing people that they've missed the point, but you've done so as well. My point: cow's milk is not meant for human consumption. It is not healthy for you, and you can feel free to post anything that says otherwise as long as it is from a credible source. You know what it's all about? Calcium. Milk is not the best source of this. That is the only reason why anyone thinks milk is "healthy" for you.
As for your copy and paste argument from Maddox about the death of animals due to crop harvesting, it is a completely false analogy. Yes, I realize what occurs during it. It is a product of technology that cannot be avoided. It is the same as driving a car and accidentally running over an animal. I did not intend to do it. Cows, poultry, etc., on the other hand are intentially bred to be lead to slaughter. Vicious slaughter. I do not personally have anything against eating meat. Same as milk, if you like it, that's fine. But to claim that it is good for you or the environment is irresponsible.
As Skirmisher pointed out, I do come across as very militant on the subject. I wish I didn't, it just annoys me when people claim things that aren't true. I'm 22 years old, and I just recently started reading about the truth. I ate meat, drank milk, and thought it was all good for me. That is why I don't feel it is wrong to do so. What I think is wrong is the fact that people think it is necessary for good health.
On a side note, booze and posting does not mix.

This is a very informative article, and in my opinion unbiased. It is a long read, but if you are seriously interested in debating the subject, I think it should be read in its entirity. It can be found here. (http://www.vegansociety.com/content/articles/stimesmag_jul2002.html)

That it comes from the vegan society gives it bias. Sorry, try again.
I'll read it, but don't expect me to buy a thing they are trying to assert.
Scanning the article I see the author (with no credentials) making all kinds of statements but not backing anything up with medical or scientific fact.
To lend credence to his statements he brings in Professor John Webster from the Bristol's vet school who gives us a few lines on cruelty.
But wait ,,, where are the scientific guns. Where are the dietary studies that show milk is not at all good for me?
We have a few professionals stepping forward and saying "milk may or may not be linked to breast cancer"; "There is no scientific evidence to support the claim that drinking milk and eating dairy products, per se, which provide some saturated fat, increases the risk of heart disease."
I'm still reading, but most of what I am seeing is the author's understanding, or lack there of, shining through.

". It is not an article written by them. I haven't even visited the Vegan Society website myself.
I think your opinion on this subject might be a little biased itself, considering you've spent your entire life drinking milk. You have children, would you take your wife's breast milk and feed it to your cat? It is the same concept.

Ok, I've read the article, now it's time to get dirty.
First on the plate is the argument of IFG-1, or Somatomedin C.
The argument is that IFG-1, present in both humans and bovines, promotes prostate cancer and fuels cancerous growths. Yet every study I have read in the last day indicates that IFG-1 isn't directly the cause of such affliction, but an imbalance is. By imbalance I mean low levels. Typically those that have digestive problems with dairy products will be unable to process IFG-1 and likely to be at risk for cancer to begin with. The statement in the article was made without presenting all of the facts.
Milk allergies, per a Finnish study. This is the gist of it. The Finns took 56 newborns and put them on a dairy regiment. Two thirds of those kids developed a milk allergy. Runny noses, skin rashes, ear infections, coughing, lack of breath. Ironically this sounds like an eczma/athsma combo and is not uncommon to begin with, but that's beside the point. These 18.6 kids retained this allergy until the age of 10. The study did not that removing the dairy from the diet caused the symptoms to cease. Here's where scientific method is supposed to kick in.
I'll make a statement; let's see if you agree.
3 out of 10 people who drink water will be in an automotive accident. Thus, by drinking water you increase your chance of an accident or death.
Sane people will not agree with that statement even though every person that has been in an automobile accident has consumed water in some fashion.
I'll take this further.
Last year it was reported by a medical journal that in a study of 1000 women (I'm not sure of the exact numbers), 500 of which had taken no less than 20 antibiotic cycles over the course of 10 years, and 500 who had not taken more than 5 over the same time frame. The study showed that the 500 women who took antibiotics with regularity had a higher instance of breast cancer. 12 times more than the 500 women who rarely took antibiotics.
Now, unless you sit down and think about, you're going to come up with the conclusion that antibiotics increase a woman's chance of breast cancer.
A study cited in a journal is just a means of saying "this is what we did, this is what we found. Is anyone interested in looking any further? TTM".
Now if this had been a full blown in depth study we could probably assume that the 500 women who rarely took antibiotics led a healthier life style, perhaps did not have a family history of breast cancer, had better diets, exercised more, drank milk. Who knows, but scientifically you can't say, "Antibiotics increase your chances of developing cancer."
Just like I can't say drinking water will increase your chances of an automobile accident.
What this study did not show is the family history of each child. They did not show that each environment was equal. They did not each diet was similar. There is a huge chunk of relevant information missing. That is what a study is for. "We found that in these 18.6 children, removing milk improved their condition." "Who want to look further? TTM".
Don't get me started on Cohen. That man has no clue when it comes to scientific method. I'm not even sure if the guy is a qualified geneticist or nutritionist.
I'm still up in the air about protein causing calcium loss; I'll have to look for some studies.
Another question I'm debating is the increase or decrease of IFG-1 with pasteurization.
The milk fat stint was complete BS. Milk fat is a short chain fat and is easily processed in the digestive system. The author and the vegan society are implying the dairy fat is artery clogging. This is simply not true. They are playing off of the word "fat" alone and have no supporting evidence that milk fat is indeed "bad" for you.
High levels of any fat are not exactly healthy, but they're not condemning fat from nuts or avocados.
The article was a good read and there is some good info in there about alternative calcium sources. The article as a whole is a bit jaded and lacking any insight to these "studies".
Just for future reference, and I'm repeating this, studies are just that ... studies. A study can show evidence that "suggests" one thing, but without all of the relevant information available, the suggestion becomes slanted.
This works for both sides of the fence.

No, back in my high school footballs days we would have a pasta party before each game with the whole team. We'd pick to people to "milk it" it was a contest who could drink a whole gallon of milk without puking. In 4 years, I never saw anyone do it. but damnit this one kid tried so many times and probebly got closer then any man to doing it. He had almost the whole gallon down and he started to puke while he was drinking the last few sips.... talk about determination.
It's called "The Gallon Challenge."
One gallon of milk.
One hour to drink it.

This site honors one challenger that has taken the experience to a whole new level. This man goes out of his way to make it an enjoyable experience for the spectators. This man is Jerry Mahon. Jerry has taken the challenge 10 times. He can puke up his milk from basically any position, (although I have no pictures, I have seen him do it while in a head stand),and he is never afraid to take the challenge. All you have to do is ask him. For these reasons, Jerry is the ultimate challenger, a man to be regarded on a higher level than any other challenger. The ultimate is a man that everyone should aspire to be like.
This is Jerry, get to know this face, because you will see a lot of him here. He has taken the challenge 10 times to date, and that number is ever growing. On this particular occasion he threw up 27 times, a number that is foreign to the normal challenger. Jerry made that possible by drinking 3 gallons in one night. One of those gallons just happened to have expired 12 days prior to consumption.
Look out, here comes Jerry full throttle. Notice yet another position, his form is perfect. Somebody showed up with their A game.
Here it is folks. Lake Mahon. This is the final product of his 27 yacks. Notice the volume of the puddle and the 3 gallons in the background. All of this and Jerry Mahon is still smiling. Yet another sign of an ultimate challenger.
Ladies start your engines, this one's a keeper.
