So, about to hit 50. Currently been hunting the bog with great success for about 3 levels now, switched to a shield brawl build, so I'm still filling in the ranks there, but DS isn't a problem here. The sweet exp is gonna dry up here in a little bit, and I'm not sure where to go next? Bonespear, Eidolons? Teras, Pyros? lower pinefar glacier thing with mammoths? Any advice for training suggestions while you're at it?

I'd suggest Ta'Illistim, you can hunt the Gossamer (sp?) Valley there, Morphs, Slush, etc. for a few levels and than advance to Black Forest Ogre's, Boars, and Vipers until you're ready for the Skull Temple.

I went to Illistim when I was about 54. I had hunted in Icemule/Pinefar and the Gossamer Valley was alot easier. Pinefar requires patience cause of all the climbing around there. If you go to Illy just don't let the slushes Ewave you.

I somehow overlooked Gossamer Valley, that sounds like a pretty good area for the level. If I'm hanging around with like ~370 DS in guarded, casting like 275 CS, would I be ok?

You should be okay mostly. Avoid swarms there. The madrinols can tail sweep you, put you into a 15 second rt and sometimes knock you down. The slushes can e wave, major ewave and have a maneuver that is like e wave.
Be sure to see what's in the room before you go into it. They will follow you also. So if you see a room of three walk in, walk out and wait. On average you will spend lots of mana killing these things. The madrinols are the only ones to give out gems, the other two give out gold dust. You won't have to worry about getting too heavy cause you won't get boxes. There is cold wind there, so be sure to have resist elements from a ranger or a scroll handy. I think the slushes have a TD of like 210 maybe 212. The madrinols TD 205 some where about there. The morphs TD 218-220. Its been awhile since I hunted there, but those should be very close to their TD's.

Hunted Bonespear for a little while then went to Teras and hunted Sand Devils and Pyros. I ended staying there all they way through Fire Mages.

I'd recommend hunting Bonespear for as long as the AG will give you bounties (and make sure to "ask taskmaster about harder"x5)... then off to EN. I always preferred the treetops over Gossamer, but either is much easier than what you'd be up against in the Landing.
Training-wise, I'd lay off the EMC. Overtraining HP will get you the same mana recovery for fewer TPs.

Should I worry about picking up some SMC in addition to the EMC? And doesnt EMC greatly help in 702 crits? (primary hunting spell so far)
Also, I have seen a lot of builds that 2x in spell aiming. I cant really afford it now, but down the road, is that something I should build up, or is 1x probably good enough to take me to cap?

Okay: You decided on a shield and brawl build which is a pretty good build to have. I am sure when you switched over you notice that you had to sacrifice quite a few ranks in your magic skills.
How do you see yourself playing your Sorcerer is the question you should have.
The rule of thumb most people go by is either to 2x in spell aiming or don't.
Benefits of Spell Aiming. Bolting with 111 and 118. Focused Maelstrom which become pretty useless later on. Aimed Limb Disruption: This is nice if you want to target certain limbs to be remove. Being 2x in spell aim will reduce the TD penalty you will have. However you can do unaimed limb disruption with no penalty. Focused Implosion relies on 2x spell aim.
EMC and SMC are good magic ranks, but as a shield and brawl build those aren't as important. However the mana return on 719 relies on those mana controls. They also help you getting your mana back and they can reduce the cost of Focused Implosion.
Next question what armor do you see yourself wearing if any. You have 2 ranks there.
Demonology lores I assume you are getting 50 or 52 ranks?
I am sure some others will chime in :)

Starting at he top, armor 2 ranks, I have some 4x fulls that are working fine so far, zero hindrance is the leading factor there, and I doubt if many of my deaths could have been prevented by heavier armor so far.
Shield / brawl, yeah, its eating into the magic ranks pretty good while I'm slowly training it up to 1x in each, but I'm not missing the magic ranks right now, and once I can start spreading the points back around, I think I can grow into it nicely.
Spell aiming, not missing 2x, I really don't web or bolt at all, I mainly just 1x for the cheap magical rank.
EMC, again, its just been a cheap magical rank from when I needed those ranks for runestaff, should I just stop training this for awhile and use the points for spells?
Same for AS / MIU. I don't really use many imbeds or scrolls right now, and don't plan on infusing anytime soon, so should I maybe just stop training these at 50 ranks, and pump the points into spells?
Demonology lore. Yeah, the plan was 52 ranks, but 30 has been working fine for ret so far (been using 702 in the bog, couldn't think of anything else that seemed to work on everything there) so I stopped training it while I brought up shield/brawl. If I stop AS/MIU/EMC at 50 ranks, I would have a lot of points to bring this up to 52 soon, and then be done with it and start putting the points back into spells. Also, what other spells might be good for retribution in Gossamer Valley? Choices have been limited in the bog.
Thanks for the input so far, it's given me a lot to think about.

Shield Brawl builds don't depend on magic ranks.
I would personally try to 2x in spell aim. Why? Aimed limb disruption and focus implosion.
MIU and Arcane you could probably slow down. But you will find scroll infusion is one of the best spells we have.
Demonology Lore you could slow down as well.
Emc and Smc you can slow down as well.
Being more than 2.5x in spells does limit other options your sorcerer can do.

The reason your still using 702 is because you have broke ass build. Your training towards nothing. First off, you are shiled/brawl, so you dont need a ton of magical ranks, they do zero for your ds, a runestaff requires spell ranks. you are 1x spell aim, which is a penalty to any spell your going to cast. You are 1x in EMC, you need to be 1x in EMC and SMC to get the gains out of DC or implosion. By 50 you should +21 sorc spells...
