it's obvious he's griefing, and it would be fun to drag him out of the table and disrupt his little run to 100..

any ideas? or is it set in stone that we can't do jack?

Bide your time until 100. He'll either be gone or getting gang raped everytime he steps foot outside a table.

You want fair play in a game that is designed to be unfair.

But seriously, In a game where it's whoever gets off the first shot, it SHOULD be about whoever has the fastest connection & script. However, when you add in invisibility... there's just absolutely nothing you can do. It's just a bad game. And personally I'm probably going to stop playing at 100.

I've never had a gemstone character as high as I do right now, and I'm still only 3/4ths of the way to 100. I've, again, come to the conclusion that this game is so flawed and Simu so poorly managed that it just can't recover.

Even if HJ did come out, I don't think I'd even play it.

At any rate, I feel like Lewis Black and Candy Corn.
here...

The worst thing about Simutronics is, of course, Gemstone IV. It's unbelievable to me. Gemstone IV is the only game in the history of America that's never been advertised. And there's a reason. All of the Gemstone IV that was ever made was made in 1988. And so, since nobody plays that stuff, every year there's a ton of it left over. And the Gemstone IV company sends the guys to the villages and they collect out of the dumpsters all the Gemstone IV we've thrown away. They wash it!! They wash it!

I'll never forget the first time my mother gave me Gemstone IV. She said, "Here - Ravin, this is Gemstone IV. It's a game that plays like crack". [high pitched sound] This plays like crap! And every year since then, Simutronics has returned and I, like an Alzhiemer's patient, find myself in the room, and the room has a big table in it, and on the table is the website for Gemstone IV. And I look at it as if I've never seen it before. "Gemstone IV", I think. "A game that plays like crack. I can't wait". Son of a bitch!!

My thoughts exactly, except I am leaving now. Probably will still play prime, but shattered I am definately done with.

Pretty much this. Gemstone was designed to be buttressed with human-enforced policy (ie, "We'll just have the GMs watch for that flaw."). Without the policy it is an irreparably flawed game as far as PvP is concerned.

Fixing it would require the removal of instant death crits, instant incapacitation, and major reductions in RT and stun times across the board. Never going to happen.

I do think it's pretty funny that they released Shattered, and all it did was underscore how ridiculous the game is, and how little they actually DO to fix it.

In all fairness I think any addition or bug fix is a superhuman feat of development. I had a recent conversation which made me realize I've probably been too harsh with my criticisms in the past, at least where development is concerned. Try to keep in mind that they are working with code that is potentially 20 years old in some places, and is the combined effort of hundreds of people of wildly varying competency.

It is hard to imagine a project still actively running in the real world that would be more difficult to modify, maintain and expand, with the exception of something like old NASA Space Shuttle systems code -- but even that is sure to be more meticulously designed and commented than Gemstone must be.

The conversion to gS4 was supposed to remove old spiderweb code.

I say supposed to...who knows what they actually did, probably not all they wanted.

They need to stop hiring bored housewives as GMs, get more actual programmers.

Think about it like this though. NASA doesn't still run the space shuttle on the Apollo technology. They changed and updated and rebuilt from the ground up several times.

How much time have they spent working with a severely out-dated system?
How much till will they spend in the future?
At what point do you stop and wipe the slate clean?
At what point do you go back to the drawing board and re-make the game properly?

I think that Hero's Journey was sort of their way of taking the precepts of Gemstone, and the theme of development and make it into a 21st century game. The fact that it failed is more of a testament to Simutronics' mis-management than it is to any external forces.

Unfortunately if you completely re-made Gemstone into a game based more in the confines of logic, it would probably be as disastrous as new coke. Whatever players they had left would surely leave as most that remain do so because of an undying loyalty to that which is Gemstone.

This is why most changes that are made are superficial at best.

Whatever. 11 days til FFXIV comes out. We'll see how that goes.

LoL I thought Obama made NASA's primary mission to be establishing relations between the USA and the muslim world?

In order to do that they would have to start paying people.

Doh! I was in beta for FFXIV last week.

I've never ALT+F4/Uninstalled an MMO so quickly.

My short list of complaints:
1) Massive and vacant world that didn't appear to have any transport system other than walking (think EverQuest 1),

2) Terrible UI with confusing control schema that couldn't be changed

3) The first and only newbie quest I could find took me 45 minutes to discover, and lead me to a hunting zone where the first creature I encountered killed me in a single hit.

Fingers crossed for Star Wars: TOR coming this year.

Oh, well I have friends who played XI a lot and enjoyed the XVI beta much more than I did. I'm just picky and completely spoiled by Warcraft.
