Not going to inline it, I wouldn't be able to get the format to match the article and the pictures/etc all play into it.
Good read though, something we all know but articulated nicely ... despite knowing this we still jump into these games.

I definitely agree with this paragraph:
The terrible truth is that a whole lot of us begged for a Skinner Box we could crawl into, because the real world's system of rewards is so much more slow and cruel than we expected it to be. In that, gaming is no different from other forms of mental escape, from sports fandom to moonshine.

I skimmed the article... The only reason I still play WoW and played GS is because of the Social Aspect of people IG. If there wasn't "Vent" I would not be playing WoW anymore. I think this all goes out the window once you've been scammed in an online game. It gives you the reflection and scope of how unimportant IG currency and items are worth.

Hahah I'm serious! The social aspect keeps me IG. Like it keeps me on these boards. I've made some great friends in vent and on the guild forums that it's kind of a treat to raid because we all get to hang out. Then we play Starcraft together after :P. I don't even like SC but I like playing with the people so I bought the game cause they kept ragging on me to play.

I've got it under control, I only do lines with my friends, it's really pretty social. Although they then started bugging me to try shooting it and well... I don't like to, but they're all doing it so I do that on occasion. I've got it under control though. I only do it when I'm with my friends.

Hahaha! That just opened my eyes to how easily anything can be turned into looking like addictions.

I read this article too and it reminded me of a few years ago when the boob thread was just getting started.. I made this post after Stef/Diethx put my lolbrielus boobs in her sig:
Actually i'd think it would have the opposite effect. Instead of reading the post, their gaze would drift to the tits and stick there, until they forgot what they were doing. It'll probably just desensitize them. After a while it gets "normal" and you don't notice it so much anymore.
I got mocked, and chose to let the subject drop instead of bitching about my sex life, but I've been in Emily's position more than a few times and that's where that comment came from. It's one thing that I won't interrupt a baseball game demanding sex but when your sig. other is raiding five nights a week from the time you get home to the time you go to bed and turns you down non-stop (and not just "not now" but with obvious agitation that you'd have the gall to suggest it).. yeah, that's a completely different animal.
Honestly, I hated leveling in WoW. I bought a leveled character and raided casually, when I got bored of it, I sold out. Even with their 'skinner box' tactics I get bored pretty quickly, which I think is why I like games like Rockband or Left4Dead, to me those have way more instant fun gratification. Plus you can use the pause button when it's time to have sex.

I don't care what I'm doing if the wife is suggesting it's go time I'm there. I've left mid raid before and will continue to do so without any thought. Sexing time > all.

I like your attitude about gaming. It's good to have one's priorities in line.

Lol, I find it funny how you commented on her attitude towards instant gratification gaming, instead of saying you liked her preference for sex over video games. It's clear where your priorities are.
Turning down sex for a video game is ridiculous. I've been pretty addicted to feeder pellet type video games (EQ, GS), but I never prioritized them over sex.

How much harder would we work at the office if we got this, and could measure our progress toward it? And if the light shot from our crotch?
This part of the article really resonated with me.

Joking aside, however. The best skinner box I've ever fallen victim to is GS... for the number one reason of course, because it got me to call it home for a while.
These days, I have all 3 things listed going for me with my job (though number 2 settles in sometimes just because). I have autonomy, it's not generally mind-numbingly boring, and I do get to see the instant gratification of my work - both in accomplishment feelings and monentary collection.
Have I turned down sex for GS? On occasions. Have I turned down GS for sex? On more occasions. Which ever form the skinner box comes in though, I'd like to think that when I choose to participate in it (at least these days) I do so out of a choice, rather than some random need for fulfillment that I am desperately seeking to amend a miserable existance with another quick fix of light-from-crotch. The little shocks on the floor are easily ignorable, but that is because I am comfortable with who I am and where I am in my life. I don't NEED for the escape/entertainment. I do, however, want for it at times.
Though, as someone tried to point out (unless I misunderstood Cel), sex is not all there is to life (the crusifying will be at 11 tonight!). It's rather easy to just say sex > all. What about self-care though? Taking the time to ensure you have a good and healthy diet? Engaging in physical exercise of some form or another? What about minor to mediocre responsibilities to the other people in our lives from 'meet me for coffee to talk about X tomorrow' to 'the funeral is in two weeks'.
How many of these other things (and things like them) are people neglecting for their pelets?

When I play Nintendo, I punch naked women with an uncanny resemblance to Jessica Alba in the face when they try to loosen my belt and tell them to go suck another dude's meat.

Note to self, if we ever raid again, strip at the beginning of the most complicated boss fight and see whether or not Anticor bitches at his main tank leaving mid raid.

I love how we have turned it into a Sex or Gaming thread and left out everything else in the real world like Jobs, Children, Rent, Food etc..
It's just Sex and Gaming battling it out.
God I love the PC.

Easier said than done. Most of the cool gamer women I know my age were spoken for a long long time ago and are always in long ass relationships.
I know I'd actually make an effort to keep an attractive one of those around if I ever had one.

WHOA! I never said that!
I agree, it's not all there is... I think the bigger issue is neglecting relationships for video games (so not just sex, but spending real time together). Proper balance in everything.
