View Full Version : Returning warrior after 15 years

I played GS3 back in the Prodigy days. During that time I played a Giantman Warrior up to level 20. During that time I enjoyed the combat portion of it but I equally enjoyed dragging people back to down to the North Gate and bandaging people until the empaths could get to them. Even had a few empaths that would let me bandage them in extreme cases because my FA was so high. Anyways its now about 15 years later and I am coming back to give it another try.

Just wondering what you Ladies and Gents thought about these stats and skill sets. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts on this matter.

Str 85
Con 80
Dex 85
Agi 80
Dis 80
Aur 70
Log 70
Int 20
Wis 70
Inf 20

3 armor
3 shield
1 CM
4 Edged
2 PT
2 dodge
1 climb
1 swim
3 FA
3 trade

Also....Back then you could target body parts (Chop the leg off....use the head like a golf ball before they turtle to much). Is that still possible and if so I cant remember if there is a skill I should focus on to do this. I know ambush is for jumping out of hiding and attacking.....but is there a different skill for when your not in Hiding?

Thanks for any help with these questions and look forward to walking (and dragging) in the lands again.

You've got some extra points to work with at first so I'm not sure your current per level pace is sustainable.

1xing CM is a terrible idea. It gives you extra combat maneuvers and it helps with aiming from the open. Trading and FA are really pretty useless for a warrior.

Apart from that, Ambush v Multi Opponent is a judgment call, as is society. I'm partial to MO and joining Sunfist and berserking through swarms. COL is nice and Voln pretty much lost its good points (unless a current player can tell me different)

As a baseline

2x armor, 2x shield, 2x PF, 2x dodge, 2x CM, 2x your weapon per level

then throw on ambush or MO as desired

THEN add the skills that you want to define your build with

I would 3x armor until at least MBP then maybe drop to 2x. Definitely 2x in CM and drop FA down to 1x max. If you're going to use a shield there's really no need in training in dodge.

I wonder what it'd be like to return to the game after 15 years hoping it'd be as fun.
Imagine that kind of disappointment.

Oh, right right. 2x shield for one handed weapon vs the dodge in what I said earlier.

if you plan on doing warcries with the guild you might want to rethink tanking inf so much as well.

not really necessary, but something to consider.

Because the game changed, or because you changed?

Jelkethra, take a look at how Combat Maneuvers work now after 15 years. Something you'll definitely want as a warrior. :)

The game is actually improved but most the players are grumpy burn outs now.

Thank you guys for your insight.

Will go with dropping the Trading and Dodge skill but (call me stupid hehe) I will stick with FA. ( Just something that I felt set me apart from other warriors...Maybe gimped me a very small amount per level) and put more toward CM and MO.

As far as being disappointed I think not. I had more fun in GS then I did in other Graphic Based MMOs (AO,DAOC,WOW) after you peel away the graphics and other things that in all reality are there just for flare and to keep you playing long periods (farming for days upon days for enough just for a flying mount) and having to have groups of 20-30 people just to be able to do some of the special dungeons. The long set of skills that you had to assign and make sure you triggered them at the just the right time etc.

Anyways thats why there is a trial period to every game right.

I just remember the fun times and people that were in GS. (Didnt have a boat load of idiots) people seemed to be more helpful to each other and the RPing was great.

Again for me I had just as much fun dragging people in and helping new players by buffing with my wizard as I did with hacking up creatures.

Gonna give it a good try at least!

Thanks again guys for your help.

Welcome back. Best of luck to you. I think you'll find a ton has changed. For a warrior, the CMANs are probably the biggest change. Try out as many as you can during your trial period. The other thing that has changed is that you can unlearn skills, so if you go down a path and decide it wasn't for you, you can unlearn the skill and train in something else. That's a pretty huge change as I'm sure you're aware.

Keep asking here for advice, there are plenty of helpful people around still.

The biggest benefit to the training change is you can do things a bit out of order without even retraining. For a warrior this pretty huge in my opinion as you can triple armor to get into heavier armors ASAP, then stop training it and as you level you'll get those points refunded a bit as that trainig will be stretched out over more levels so you pay the double training cost instead of the triple training cost.

and yeah...cmans cmans cmans. spell list for squares :)

Thanks for the help and welcome backs. As far as Change hehe YEAH just a bit used to that I had to retrain my characters on World of Whinercraft about once every month it seemed due to balancing issues and ....well whiners complaining about "This class is to too weak...This class is way overpowered" One reason I dont miss that at all.

But anyways its good to be back...just have to get a few hours downtime to get into it. Its hard when your traveling coast to coast all the time :)

Laters and Thanks again

Well...all I can say is wow... I tried using my name to create my first character and I couldnt. Thought to myself, someone else is using Jelk for their character?? So I called Simu and found out my old account is still there! Now I just get to relearn GS4 but with at least my OLD characters. Keep a eye out for a grey and balding Giantman Warrior in game lol.

Cya in game!

Voln pretty much lost its good pointsDreams is useless now, and it feels kinda gimpy for a warrior to not get a TD symbol, but Voln still does still have Voln Fu and group fogging. If this guy likes doing rescues, it'll come in handy. Sight is nice for the same reason, if you know your voln buddies around town.

My Voln warrior does warcamps all the time with other squares (who are all GoS), and they love that he has a "get out of jail free" card for the team.

Don't get me wrong, it's still the lesser of the societies, but it fits my char's roleplay well, and does have its unique points.

So how has your return been thus far?

I too am coming back and was wondering if I could get some sound advice on rebuilding. From what I recall I was quite deadly before using Voln fu in combination with sword and shield. Seems I paid quite a bit for my armor too which back then I was not penalized for using (some kind of silvery vultite plate)... but times have changed. I was told to shop for a hauberk.

Level 24 looking to totally redesign myself (skills and stats if necessary) but will probably not forfeit my Voln Master-ness though that post about beserking through warcamps or w/e sounds fun.

trainings seem a bit all over with some in lockpicking, fa, hiding, etc. looking to make myself lethal and self reliant for the most part. Would certainly consider dropping edged weapon/shield combo and going to two-hander if anyone thinks that is advisable. I have brawling maxed for voln fu if that makes any difference for fighting strategies.

I'm hoping to get back in the swing of things so any advice is useful.

Seriously missed the lands and so pleased to be back.

Umm.. I don't think you could ever wear plate at level 24 without a lot of penalties..

Gnomad
09-10-2010, 02:25 PM
Honestly, if you want to be OHE/Shield with ambushing and lockpicking and other self-reliance, you're better off with a rogue.

OHE/Shield is fine for warriors and has the best defense of any warrior build, but the popular builds are either the big weapons (THW or Polearms) or TWC small, flaring weapons + MStrike.

I'd throw the plate in your locker for now, move to 3x armor, and find some metal breastplate you can wear in the meantime.

Gnomad

Umm.. I don't think you could ever wear plate at level 24 without a lot of penalties..
a long long time ago you could, back when metal breastplates were plate protection on the chest and no protection anywhere else

Donquix

But if you tripled to 24 you would have 70+ ranks so you would only be adding what...like 3 seconds of swing RT? If you were using sword and board and had a decent agidex, you could still swing in 5-6 seconds and if you had no maneuvers to worry about...pew pew.

bborwoeorks
09-10-2010, 02:38 PM
well I think the deal was that I wasn't penalized with my Voln fu and I used that to gain the adv. shrug who knows. Anywho, what should I do for stats/skills/cman/Warrior guild? Trying to get reset up while I still have my free resets.

Just not sure where or how much to put in for trains. I am pretty sure I should go warcries and beserk for now. Do I need to reallocate stats? and which cman do I go for?

and how does combat go for you? I am trying to remember what I used to do. I thought I did something like ambush leg for those critters with legs and then for wraiths and such... I think I just tried throwing them. Really wish I could remember. also, could break down the trains for me so I can make note on what template to follow if you don't mind. I need to budget for brawling and switch to 2hd but I think that build looks pretty close to what I want to do... I think

Koorbeob, I tried helping you, but it seems you don't know how to use the Internet. I gave you the URL. I told you to install Ruby and extract the lich folder to My Documents. You then asked me where to get Ruby. I said it's on the website.

sorry, I read the lichproject crap several times never saw a single thing about ruby. Read the install "directions" and never saw a single word that even rhymed with Ruby. So when you said install Ruby... just thought I would ask where to get it.

Ya know trying to get re-acquainted with something I used to rock 15 years ago, in a place where you can’t really ask (ooc ??), with programs no one has ever heard of isn’t the most peaceful way to spend a birthday. All I want to do is go hack on some things with out dying because I can’t type fast enough.

I do appreciate the help. Just frustrated. I downloaded Ruby. It won’t let me export lich just lets me open file. Running it does nothing.

I get it. I'm an idiot that can’t use the internet. Sorry.

Sigh

You got lich from http://www.lichproject.org/download.html, right?

Windows + Stormfront/WizardFE + Lich

Download and install the Simutronics Launcher if it is not already installed.
Download and install Ruby 1.8.6.
Download and extract lich-4.1.62.zip.
Double-click on lich.rbw
Log in using Lich's game entry.

What do you mean, "export lich"? To extract it, you're using a modern OS, right click on the .zip file, and choose the "extract" option. When it asks you for a directory, put it in a place that's easy to reach - either your desktop, or the C drive, or something.
