Since I bartend, I am always looking for new drink recipes. One of my favorites is a tropical drink:
2 shots of Capt. Morgan Rum, 1 shot of Triple Sec, 2 shots of pineapple juice, 2 shots of orange juice and a half shot of grenadine. That recipe can always be cut in half depending on glass size.
List your favorite mixed drink recipes here and give them a name if you want. I will put interesting ones up on my specials board at work, and keep everyone updated on how well they sell.

I go in phases for drinks. Lately, during this ungodly hot summer, I've been cheating. Costco makes a really great pre-made margarita: pour over ice, drink. Repeat as necessary.

When I'm not cheating, I like a good gin and tonic, or a particularly good vodka called Parallel 51 on the rocks. Normally I'd say vodka is vodka, but this stuff goes down like good scotch, which I'm also very happy to be drinking.

Some mixed drinks taste like alcohol. Some do not. White Russians fall into the "do not" category unless your bartender is a complete lactose intolerant booze fiend. Are they delicious? Sure (get them to add some butterscotch schnapps, nom nom nom), but they're sugarful, weak on alcohol (comparatively) and not something that someone who 'enjoys the taste of alcohol' drinks.

Is it bad to enjoy drinks that don't taste like alcohol? No, not at all. Lots of people do. Just don't try to be a badass about it when someone comments.

Don't remember what they are called but I used to drink them in the beginning of my drinking career... its a shot thats 1/3rd jaeger, 1/3rd midori, and 1/3rd chambord. You layer the stag, the melon, and the holy hand grenade into a shot glass and it tastes like gummy bears.

The only mixed drinks I've had in the past few years have been jack and coke, and cherry vodka in diet coke... because cherry coke rules, but is too sweet for me... hence, cherry diet coke. I suppose I could just have cherry diet coke and plain vodka, but the cherry vodka seems to have more cherry taste than the cherry diet coke.

Made this Candy Corn martini at the Chocolatier I used to work for.

Take 1 bottle of Sapphire Gin and pour in 2 cups kettle corn into an airtight jug, and leave overnight. Strain out gin and re-bottle and refrigerate (throw out kettle corn).

To make the martini:
1 1/2 oz kettle infused gin
1/2 oz sherry or moscato (sweet white dessert wine, any works)
1 oz grenadine

Shake with ice, strain into martini glass. Tastes like candy corn!

If you dye sugar orange and yellow you can rim the glass with that to make it prettier.

Bacon Vodka
3 slices of bacon, cooked and grease blotted off
about 2 cups vodka (something you would drink on its own)

Place the cooked bacon into a pint jar or a similar non-reactive container that can be sealed. Fill with vodka. Place the jar in a dark cabinet for one week, then place the jar in the freezer overnight to help the fat solidify. Pour the vodka through a paper coffee filter (once or twice) - the resulting vodka should be clear with no little fat globs floating around. Clean out the pint jar, then pour vodka back in and store in the freezer.

Prosciutto-Wrapped Bacon Cocktail
3 parts bacon vodka
3 parts melon liqueur (like Midori)
splash of lime seltzer

Combine bacon vodka and melon liqueur with ice in a cocktail shaker and shake until chilled. Strain into a martini glass and top with a splash of chilled seltzer.

Refrigerate overnight to allow flavor infusion.

Most of the time when people don't want a sugary ass drink they order something straight up or like, a jack and coke :/ Here are a couple more savory drinks I know of (first is a take on a classic, second is.. I dunno, lol)

Thai Mojito
Rim glass with coconut. Muddle mint and cilantro leaves in 1 oz peppered simple syrup, add 1 oz lemon juice, 3 oz clear rum and top off with soda.
simple syrup for above:
Combine 1 cup of water and 3/4 cup of sugar, add 2 tablespoons red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and keep heated under low heat for ten minutes. Strain out flakes, reserve syrup.


Bloody Cormac
Mix 2 parts of habanero-infused vodka (cut up two habaneros, put in vodka, let it sit for a week then strain out) with 1 part Guinness and a squeeze of lime, drop in an olive. Rim glass with allspice.

Um yeah. Thanks for finally adding to the thread. On that note, just because I find tropical drinks yummie, doesn't mean I drink them all the time. My all time favorite is a classic martini...although I like them dirty.

* Cointreau

* Fill the shot glass about a third full with Kahlua.
* You form layers with the lighter alcohols by slowly pouring them over the back of a spoon, touching the side of the glass just above the liquid. Use this technique to slowly add a layer of Irish Cream over the Kahlua.
* Add a layer of Cointreau on top of the Irish Cream.
* Pour some 151 on top of the Cointreau and light the drink on fire.
* You can drink the lit drink using a long straw, from the bottom of the drink.

New Orleans is said by some to be the birthplace of the cocktail (tonic drinks were served out of a French egg-cup called a 'coquetier' - which when incorrectly pronounced became 'cocktail' ) and not surprisingly, some of the best absinthe cocktails come from this city. This drink is considered by some as the first 'cocktail' ever invented; it was created by a New Orleans pharmacy in the early 19th century to ward off tropical malaise!

- 1 ounce absinthe (used as rinse)
- 2 ounces Cognac Sazerac-de-Forge (now sadly extinct!) - you will need another cognac. Rye whisky became a popular substitute and though mistakenly considered a part of the original recipe, makes a fine version.
- 3 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar or simple syrup (ideally Gomme syrup, if you can find it)

Add absinthe to glass, drop an ice cube to chill and slightly louche absinthe, swirl to coat sides and bottom, then drain absinthe. Add rest of ingredients, shake with more ice and strain into an Old-Fashion glass (or an egg-cup), garnish with lemon peel.

First, slice the jalapenos and infuse them in triple sec for 3-5 hours, or overnight if you really want to dial the spice to 11, but even just a few hours is enough to get a good amount of heat (to clarify, infuse the jalapenos in way more than 0.5 oz of triple sec, maybe like 1/3 to 1/2 of the bottle so you can make more of these without going through this process again). Then strain out the jalapenos and store the infused triple sec in the fridge. Once you have the infused triple sec, in a mixing cup muddle the cilantro sprigs, 2-3 slices of cucumber, and the lime juice. Add the gin, infused triple sec, and agave syrup. Shake with ice, strain through mesh strainer into a martini glass. Garnish with a slice of cucumber on the rim.

• Half a smallish pumpkin, sugar pie pumpkins work best

• 1 tbs whole cloves

• Half a vanilla pod

• 1 l. of Bourbon

Directions for Spiced Pumpkin Bourbon

Cut the pumpkin into medium sized pieces and dry roast in a 375° F degree oven for about 20 - 30 minutes or until soft and lightly caramelized. Place the roasted pumpkin, cinnamon stick, cloves and vanilla in a container with the bourbon. Allow the mixture to ruminate out of direct sunlight for about a week.

Directions for Spiced Pumpkin Bourbon

Cut the pumpkin into medium sized pieces and dry roast in a 375° F degree oven for about 20 - 30 minutes or until soft and lightly caramelized. Place the roasted pumpkin, cinnamon stick, cloves and vanilla in a container with the bourbon. Allow the mixture to ruminate out of direct sunlight for about a week.
