I am looking where to buy a true garrote. I tried the old dinghy east of WL, but the cart was gone. Does anyone know some locations where to buy a true garrote (not a strangler) or can make one? Please let me know.

Thanks

I think belts are 'true' garrotes. I vaguely remember a buddy of mine showing me a log of him strangling a mouthy noob.

May I ask what your garroting?

I pulled this off of the GS website. "Valid items are garrote, wire, rope, belt, beltstrap, cord, lanyard, scarf, strap, and tether. Garrote items are divided into 'true' garrotes (garrote & wire) and 'substitute' garrotes, known as strangles, which includes all other valid item names."

I just started garroting, so I believe belts are a part of the stranglers. After reading the above caption. I will have to do some tests on the different messages. I bought the (harp wire and a thin metal wire studded with sharp barbs) from the festival, still feels like a strangler and not a true garrote. All I have received with the wire i bought there are bruising to the neck, no slashing. I'll do some more tests and see what it comes up with.

Oh and to answer your questions, I give critters the wire necklace. (smirk)

Uhm.. Does it really matter? Whatever you garrote dies either way.
(At least it did when I used a belt.)

When you're not using a 'true' Garrote there's a bigger chance of it breaking. Big trouble if it breaks on a person you're strangling the fuck out of.

Garroting is, at least in my opinion, a PvP Maneuver. That being said, it could be the same for any Maneuver. It feels like a strangle due to how much text is involved. You'll get a couple lines of choke. If you stop, they'll shake it off and you'll have to start all over. If you're hunting critters with it there's always the possibility of another one coming in and trying to kill you while you're choking it's friend.

If you're doing it to a player, get them alone and they'll often die if you get it on them.

"Using a strangle rather than a true garrote will increase the attacker's round times slightly. Strangles have a higher damage and repair rate, and a lower major success (death-strangle) rate. Exact stats for each strangle vary from type to type. Strangles will not do neck slash damage on minor successes, but may bruise the target.

Also as you can see, using a strangler rather then a true garrote, increases the round time by one second, each of the sixish rounds for a garrote. So you kill that much faster with a true garrote and your butt is not hung out in the wind for any mob that decides to walk in.
