I agree with Marlu that some amount of conflict is necessary FOR SOME PEOPLE in Shattered. Bolded part is where my theory disagrees with theirs. I enjoyed the hell out of the war we had. I loved the intelligence/counter intelligence games, the gyrations we all went through to try to get a jump on the others, or to ensure that we'd be safe during our AFK time, and the adrenaline rush whenever I saw a red name in my hunting ground. I got a serious kick out of the Marlu hunts, and learning to build scripts that would help my side and hurt the others. I'm still getting a big kick out of script writing, but I kinda miss the excitement of the war.
SO, this is where the PvP town thing comes in. It was suggested several times, very early on, that someone claim a town (not Landing) and set it aside as the PvP zone. Why don't we do it? I'll put up a poll, and let it run for a week. Anyone who plays Shattered votes on which town it is. After that, those who want to war can move there, those who don't can avoid it.
Pros:
* People who want the excitement of conflict get it
* People who don't want the hassle of conflict don't get it
* Warring people can go all out without worry about harassing innocent people, or angering others IRL over a game.
* People can join or leave the war as they see fit, simply by moving towns.
Cons:
* Some people will be upset that they hate PvP and their favorite hunting ground is in that town.
* Some pansy-ass bitch is going to AFK-script in the safe places, run into town and kick ass when they're at the comp, then tuck their tail in and run back to safety on a daily basis.
An alternative to get around both cons would be for two groups to form up in opposition to each other, with no specific town. Then it's just people warring instead of location. The issue there is AoE - you find the enemy group meeting up somewhere and cast 525, just in time for a couple uninvolved innocents to wander through - suddenly your meteor storm becomes a shitstorm.
Thoughts/suggestions/flaming? If there's only a couple people interested this isn't really worth it, but if enough want to play, this could be fun.
Edit: And Shattered Dreamer apparently has similar ideas, posted at the same time. Pick a thread for discussion, since they're both pretty similar. I'm entirely too lazy to move mine.
