View Full Version : PvP Town

I agree with Marlu that some amount of conflict is necessary FOR SOME PEOPLE in Shattered. Bolded part is where my theory disagrees with theirs. I enjoyed the hell out of the war we had. I loved the intelligence/counter intelligence games, the gyrations we all went through to try to get a jump on the others, or to ensure that we'd be safe during our AFK time, and the adrenaline rush whenever I saw a red name in my hunting ground. I got a serious kick out of the Marlu hunts, and learning to build scripts that would help my side and hurt the others. I'm still getting a big kick out of script writing, but I kinda miss the excitement of the war.

SO, this is where the PvP town thing comes in. It was suggested several times, very early on, that someone claim a town (not Landing) and set it aside as the PvP zone. Why don't we do it? I'll put up a poll, and let it run for a week. Anyone who plays Shattered votes on which town it is. After that, those who want to war can move there, those who don't can avoid it.

Pros:
* People who want the excitement of conflict get it
* People who don't want the hassle of conflict don't get it
* Warring people can go all out without worry about harassing innocent people, or angering others IRL over a game.
* People can join or leave the war as they see fit, simply by moving towns.

Cons:
* Some people will be upset that they hate PvP and their favorite hunting ground is in that town.
* Some pansy-ass bitch is going to AFK-script in the safe places, run into town and kick ass when they're at the comp, then tuck their tail in and run back to safety on a daily basis.

An alternative to get around both cons would be for two groups to form up in opposition to each other, with no specific town. Then it's just people warring instead of location. The issue there is AoE - you find the enemy group meeting up somewhere and cast 525, just in time for a couple uninvolved innocents to wander through - suddenly your meteor storm becomes a shitstorm.

Thoughts/suggestions/flaming? If there's only a couple people interested this isn't really worth it, but if enough want to play, this could be fun.

Edit: And Shattered Dreamer apparently has similar ideas, posted at the same time. Pick a thread for discussion, since they're both pretty similar. I'm entirely too lazy to move mine.

The two factions could also, you know, actually roleplay it.

How about you all roleplay it as a battle between the human and elven empires? Play Gemstone like adults.

Landing is and always will be the pvp town.

As i said before, the three capped hunting areas will be the warzone. Capture the flag type shit, see if you can keep it.

Yeah, factions/orders/guilds/whatevers will basically have to hold those hunting areas. Should be fun.

Never been capped. Are prime capped areas that full of people? That there isn't enough space for everybody?

Plenty of space in prime. Especially with the addition of warcamps.

With populations so low it probally wont matter. Really on teras, Icemule and couple others to even concern yourself. But not everyone will hit at once. So there are choices and then pretty much just farming boxes.. yay

But you will want an alliance of people to drag/rescue yer ass out of it since it will hurt more to decay when your capped than at 50. But by then everyone who caps will have tons of coins to pay the priestess off and get deeds. The squares IMO will have the hardest times hunting them in AFK. Spell bursts blah blah... good times

The capped hunting areas are going to be big PvP spots, and a return of the pvp wars we saw earlier. There's only 3 places in the game an enemy can go if they want to level, so I'll always know where to find them.

On the flip side there will probably be dedicated players who specifically patrol the cap areas looking for me or others. I'm not sure if there's any way to not involve people who want to opt out from this.. It's going to be a rite of passage to hit cap, unless you're an empath or cleric. AFK scripting through the 80s and 90s is probably going to frustrate many into stopping.

What we really need is for a GM-made Arena where people can get matched up, move around between a few rooms, and get an auto-raise teleport out of the arena when they die. Never going to happen though.

You honestly think that AFK scripting will frustrate people ... right when they're about to hit cap? So they get through 1-80 and then... "OH FUCK THIS!"?

No but even manually playing level 95-100 is a bitch. Squares will be harder to do it. Semi and pures will be easier like in OTF, OTF liches and all that west wood area are pretty easy although qynari only come out at night. But jants and griffins are a pain in the ass.

Between the PvP and the creatures it is going to be a significantly more frustrating experience than the "check my AFK script twice a day" run up to 80. I sure as hell wouldn't want to deal with it, which is why I rolled an empath.

I say, for now, leave the warring to the factions. We all know who is who. If you don't wanna play that game, don't join a clan.

I'd be perfectly content with that, but we have this annoying truce thing going. If there's no truce, then the Marlu brigade goes back to harassing people who want nothing to do with them. So I want new factions, or a separate town, or something where I can slaughter some people without worrying that we're bugging innocent bystanders.
