I was thinking how underappreciated the other guy, Wedge, is, the other day. Yanno, the guy who helped blow up two death stars, and is a hero in his own right?

There are a shitton of books that feature Wedge Antilles as the main protagonist. He's pretty bad ass. Dash Rendar is another one of my favorites who had a bunch of books about him.

Yeah Wedge got huge in the books. Also in the semi-short-lived Star Wars: Collectible Card Game back in the 90's Wedge was a really really great pilot card, I think in the first set (before Luke became really hot) Wedge added a better pilot bonus than Luke. Anyone else play that?

Wedge isn't unappreciated. Leaders of the rogue squadron need no such recognition. He does it because it's his JOB!

You are elite pilots and you are more than just that, but no matter who you are, or how good you are, you'll never be considered as good as Biggs Darklighter or Jek Porkins or anyone else who has died in service to Rogue Squadron. They are legends, this unit is a legend, and none of us are ever going to be able to be more than they are."

From the wiki

The names Biggs and Wedge (ビッグス & ウェッジ Biggusu & Wejji? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Installing_Japanese_character_sets)) are given to two related characters in several Final Fantasy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_%28series%29) games. They are speculated to be a homage to the Star Wars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars) characters Biggs Darklighter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_Squadron#Biggs_Darklighter) and Wedge Antilles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wedge_Antilles) by an online editor.[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biggs_and_Wedge_%28Final_Fantasy%29#cite_note-5) Their first appearance is in Final Fantasy VI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VI) —with "Biggs" mistranslated (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanization_of_Japanese) to "Vicks"— as a pair of Vector (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Final_Fantasy_VI_locations#Vector) soldiers accompanying Terra Branford (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terra_Branford) in an attack on Narshe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Final_Fantasy_VI_locations#Narshe) to claim an Esper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_in_the_Final_Fantasy_series#Summoning_Magic) . They are playable for a short period, but are soon killed by the Esper.
Following their first appearance, Biggs and Wedge have appeared in several games. In Final Fantasy VII (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VII), Biggs and Wedge are members of AVALANCHE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVALANCHE), an eco-warrior (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eco-warrior) organization. They are killed after a failed attempt to stop one of Midgar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Final_Fantasy_VII_locations#Eastern_contin ent) city's support pillars from being destroyed by Shinra Company (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinra_Electric_Power_Company). Final Fantasy Tactics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Tactics) features a form of the names—as "Viggs" and "Wezaleff"—as members of a raiding party, who have no speaking roles and die while descending Orbonne Monastery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivalice). In Final Fantasy VIII (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VIII), Biggs and Wedge are Galbadian soldiers who engage in battle with the protagonists twice, (once in Dollet — Disc I, and again in D-District Prison — Disc II) providing comic relief (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comic_relief). They eventually retire from the Galbadian forces in Disc III. They also appear in Final Fantasy 9 as two Knights of Pluto.

Biggs and Wedge in Final Fantasy VIII

In Final Fantasy X (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_X) and Final Fantasy X-2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_X-2), Biggs and Wedge are guards at the Luca (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locations_in_Spira#Luca) Blitzball (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minigames_of_Final_Fantasy#Blitzball) stadium, and can be scouted by the player to participate in Blitzball. In Final Fantasy XII (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XII), two Archadian guards named Gibbs and Deweg (variation of Biggs, anagram of Wedge) stand at Nalbina Town, and appear as comic relief in several optional scenes in a sidequest. In the English translation of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Tactics_Advance), Biggs is a former business subordinate of Cid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Final_Fantasy_Tactics_Advance_characters#C id); Biggs and Wedge also appear as random names for character units and hero classes in Final Fantasy I (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_I). In Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisis_Core:_Final_Fantasy_VII), Biggs and Wedge are enemies in a sniping mini-game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini-game).
Biggs and Wedge are common names in other video games by Square Co. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_Co.) and Square Enix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_Enix). In Chrono Trigger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrono_Trigger), Vicks and Wedge, along with a third character named Piett (who likewise shares a name with a Star Wars character (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Admiral_Piett)), are sideshow attractions at Norstein Bekkler's Lab at the Millennial Fair (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1000_A.D._%28Chrono_Trigger%29). Biggs retains his original name in the Nintendo DS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_DS) re-release of Chrono Trigger. In Kingdom Hearts II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_Hearts_II), Biggs and Wedge are storekeepers to armor shops. Lastly, Chocobo's Dungeon 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chocobo%27s_Dungeon_2) features them as two Black Mage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_character_classes#Black_Mage) who may assist the player.
Biggs and Wedge also appears in Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_IV:_The_After_Years) as Red Wings soldiers who die protecting Prince Ceodore from an attack led by the Mysterious Woman. The game reveals that Biggs and Wedge were actually the two soldiers who questioned Cecil about stealing the Water Crystal of Mysidia at the beginning of Final Fantasy IV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_IV).
Fantasy fiction author Raymond E. Feist also added Gibbs ('g' and 'b' reversed) and Megie (w and d fliped vertically) as minor characters in Talon of the Silver Hawk.
Biggs and Wedge are Featured in Final Fantasy XIII as the name of a shop, B&W outfitters

I was thinking how underappreciated the other guy, Wedge, is, the other day. Yanno, the guy who helped blow up two death stars, and is a hero in his own right? He was the star of the early Rogue Squadron material. Speaking of Biggs, his cousin or nephew or something also joined later Rogue Squadron: it had been too long since Rogue Squadron had a Darklighter. Rebellion = nepotism.

I was thinking how noob I am for not noticing this was an old thread, and for somehow missing it the first time around.
