Bigger breasts = bigger tips

Abstract
Waitresses completed an on-line survey about their physical characteristics, self-perceived attractiveness and sexiness, and average tips. The waitresses’ self-rated physical attractiveness increased with their breast sizes and decreased with their ages, waist-to-hip ratios, and body sizes. Similar effects were observed on self-rated sexiness, with the exception of age, which varied with self-rated sexiness in a negative, quadratic relationship rather than a linear one. Moreover, the waitresses’ tips varied with age in a negative, quadratic relationship, increased with breast size, increased with having blond hair, and decreased with body size. These findings, which are discussed from an evolutionary perspective, make several contributions to the literature on female physical attractiveness. First, they replicate some previous findings regarding the determinants of female physical attractiveness using a larger, more diverse, and more ecologically valid set of stimuli than has been studied before. Second, they provide needed evidence that some of those determinants of female beauty affect interpersonal behaviors as well as attractiveness ratings. Finally, they indicate that some determinants of female physical attractiveness do not have the same effects on overt interpersonal behavior (such as tipping) that they have on attractiveness ratings. This latter contribution highlights the need for more ecologically valid tests of evolutionary theories about the determinants and consequences of female beauty.

I have not been a waiter since college so..about 8 years but if someone managed to get a hand full of nickles to float on a glass of water I would accept that as a tip.

It's also entirely possible since these results are self reported that attractive big busomed women have a better view of themselves and feel like they make more money, even if they don't.

I wonder if that whole "75 cents on the dollar" counts in retail food service. I highly doubt a pair of double dees and a 28 inch waist gets the same tips as somebody sporting a schlong.

I think what he meant to say was that trick where you put coins in a full glass of water, then use a laminated menu to flip the cup upside down and place it on the table, thus sliding the menu out from under it. Doing so keeps the water from pouring out but now the only way to get it off the table is to release the suction and send the water going every where.


....and um, I've never done this, only heard about it.

Male waiters make a killing in tips. I know I tip very well if I have a cute dude hovering over my table.

There was this restaurant when I lived in CT, and the waitress was named Snow White. Seriously, EVERYONE called her snow white. I tipped her fairly large, fairly regularly, for two reasons. First, she was very sweet and helpful, and Second, I didn't understand credit cards. Ah, youth.

From my experience I would say that women bartenders definitely make more than men. Not sure about waiters.

I get huge tips as a bartender, but from what I remember when I used to waitress the male waiters were the ones who got really good tips. The guys that I worked with were pretty charming.
