Here's the current leaguepage, with hilariousness abounding:
http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/leagueoffice?leagueId=587361
Who's in? Who's out?
I e-mailed all 12 of our current owners, but I am open to expanding/downsizing/keeping it the same, whatever.
In addition, now that ESPN supports auction drafts, I want to gauge interest about that. I think auctions are 3297832879783 times more fun than snake drafts.
We could also discuss keepers.
This is why we have a thread. LET'S GET PUMPED, BOYS!

Never heard of auction drafts before but it sounds fun.
No? Basically... each owner gets a designated amount of money (ex. $200).
Each owner, in turn, has to bring up a player to be auctioned off.
So say the first player up for bid is Chris Johnson. He goes up for auction, and the highest bidder wins. You could pay like 150 bucks for CJ and Adrian Peterson, but you might lose to the guy who waited for good value and let everyone else throw their money away on big names. It's a fun alternative!
It also eliminates the whole "FUCK I REALLY WANTED THAT GUY THIS YEAR!" syndrome. If you want him, PAY FOR HIM!

Hey Daniel... found this on ESPN...

ALL LEAGUE TYPES: IN-DRAFT AUTO-BIDDING (Absentee Team Owners)
Due to the interactive nature of the Auction draft, it is highly recommended that ALL team owners are present when the draft begins. If you're missing 1 or 2 owners at the beginning of the draft, we recommend the LM pauses the draft until all owners can be contacted and connected. If more than 3 or 4 owners are missing, we recommend you reset the draft time to a time when all owners are available.
Each team whose owner is not present will be considered on "Autobid" and the system will actively draft for them.
The Autobid system will bid up to a randomly determined % of the player's pre-set value. The bidding range for this is 60% to 110% of the set/default value. This means if Felix Jones' preset draft value is $40 the autopilot system could bid up to $44, or only just to $24. This feature was built into to allow for bargains to still be obtained in a draft with absent owners, yet still field each one a competitive team.
NOTE: At anytime during the draft, if a team is disconnected, they will automatically go on Autobid.

TENTATIVE DRAFT DATE/TIME:
I'm looking at Sunday, August 29th, at 9:00 EST.
Sundays are usually the best time to draft, I've found. We could go earlier or later, of course.
I've heard no opposition to an auction draft, as well... so we'll go with that? With the turnover we usually have for this league, keepers are off the table too, I would say.

Alright, Trouble, PM me your e-mail. BiggusWormus wants in too, so unless I hear some enthused opposition, we'll make it 16 teams.
This auction is going to be absolutely insane.
What we'll do is make 4 divisions of 4 teams each.
The schedule will have to be just like the real NFL. You'll play everyone in your division twice (6 games), you'll play everyone in another division once (4 games), then 3 wild card games (not in your division or the one you play all 4 teams from) that I'll just let the scheduler randomly determine.
Next season, if we keep the same format, which divisions play who will shift.
It has to be that way because of the widespread dislike of having the final game of the playoffs in week 17, because depending on which teams are sitting players, you could get absolutely boned.
What we need to decide are how many playoff teams there should be.
Either...
A) 6 playoff teams (4 division winners and next 2 best records), top 2 get first-round byes.
OR
B) 8 playoff teams (4 division winners, next 4 best records), no byes.
I'm leaning toward B. PUT UP OR SHUT UP.
Rimalon
08-19-2010, 04:11 AM
ALSO, with 4 divisions, we need 4 hilarious division names.
Right now I'm leaning toward the 4 Baldwin brothers, but if anyone can think of anything better, let's hear it.
I can keep Baldwin jokes, pictures and YouTube craziness running all season long, EASY.

Lawl. I did a bunch of stuff to the league, including the front page:
http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/leagueoffice?leagueId=587361
Check everything out and make sure it's to your liking.
I assigned people to Baldwins dependent on how long you've been in the league. The longer tenured you are, the older Baldwin you are with. Sorry Sean, YOU'RE STUCK WITH DANIEL!
I also finalized the schedule. Here's how it shakes out:
Weeks 1-3: You play your division.
Weeks 4-7: Inter-divisional play! Alec takes on Daniel, whilst Billy and Stephen fight it out.
Weeks 8-10: More inter-divisional play, but you'll miss playing one team in the division. Can't be helped if we want to avoid week 17. Alec tries to beat down Stephen, whilst Daniel and Billy fight it out for middle child supremacy.
Weeks 11-13: You play your division in the final weeks of the season.
Week 14: First round of playoffs, 8 teams in.
Week 15: Second round of playoffs, 4 teams left.
Week 16: FINAL TWO TEAMS PLAY FOR THE DAVID WHATLEY TROPHY!
...
I'm starting to get excited. Can you tell?

Alright football nerds, we're a week away.
Remember, the draft is SUNDAY, AUGUST 29th at 9:00 PM EST.
It's an auction draft. Each team has $200 to spend on its team. One by one, players will be put up for auction. Highest bid for that player acquires them, and so on and so on.
We start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Defense, and 1 RB/WR flex spot. You have 8 spots on your bench to draft as well (up from last year, too many occasions of weird kicker/defense bye week shittyness.)
Any money that you DON'T spend on your players becomes useless after the draft. SO BID, AND BID OFTEN!
Rimalon
08-23-2010, 04:54 AM
Make sure you know how the league scores, as well. Everything is pretty standard, but one thing to note is that ALL offensive touchdowns count for 6 points.
This is not a keeper league. We have 16 teams signed up and good to go.
If you cannot attend the draft, you can go into your pre-draft settings and designate maximum/minimum dollar amounts that the computer will bid for you automagically. This is useful to do or check out, as you can get a sense of what you might be paying for some players.
I'll do the best I can if someone is having technical difficulties on draft night; I can pause the draft, but I don't want the draft to take all night. We'll move things along, so if you think your connection is going to be iffy, set those amounts and trust the computer to bid for you.

Just to be fair, I'll definitely throw down regardless of if everyone else is doing it. I just didn't want to pressure people who didn't have the cash or the cajones to put up cash.
The question I'd guess would be what happens if the champ didn't put up the cash, do we pay the second place guy...or even lower?

Pay the person from the bidding group who finishes best.
Would set the cutoff for deciding if your buying in to be before the start of the draft.

Bruce would be my first choice. Not sure he wants to though cause I think he lost money last year converting silver and maybe paypal fees. This year would be straight cash though.
Pay the person from the bidding group who finishes best.

Agree with both of these.
Swami71
08-25-2010, 04:34 PM
I haven't heard from Bruce. Any objections with me collecting the money?
If everyone paid right now the payout would be $160.
Winner would be the highest finisher of the people that bet. So if the highest of the 8 took 5th place they'd get $160.
Bets must be paid before the draft.
Any other rules?

Some additional notes about the ESPN auction draft software:
Each team, in turn, will nominate a player to be auctioned off. You can designate a starting bid that you want that player to start off at (it defaults at $1).
After the original nomination, a 20 second clock begins to count down. After a bid is made (and for every subsequent bid after that), a 10 second clock begins to count down. Anyone may bid at any time. First come, first serve, essentially. When that clock reaches 0, the player is sold.
To bid, there is a large red "bid $1 more" button next to the display where it says current bid. There is also manual bid input, so if you want to jack Chris Johnson up to $60 immediately, you may do so.
I think the timings may be adjustable; if so, I'll change the clocks to 30 and 20, respectively. In a mock draft I just did 10 seconds seemed to fly by, and it was fast and furious.
Lemme know if you guys have any questions. I highly suggest just taking 10 minutes to join a mock auction on ESPN to see how it goes.

I predict Revalos will take second.
My biggest regrets are not knowing the kicker situations. I had no clue Kris Brown was probably losing his job to Rackers (not a big deal though, $1). And not having enough money at the end to get some deals. I feel like I spent my money on some good middle draft values though.

I got caught trying to bid up early and ended up with Felix Jones for $29. Yegh. Not loving my squad but the years I have loved my drafts have never gone great. 16 teams though--such a deep league, sleepers are going to be huge. Can't wait.

I like my picks except Turner, but honestly he was the only one left worth anything at that point, and Shiancoe for $4 + Palmer for $5 was riiiiiidiculously good

So are all the people who didn't show for the draft actually playing? Is Mistomeer actively playing? Cause I got MJD's handcuff if you want to make some deals cause I heard his knee/neck/vertebrae is NAGGING YO.

Dude you couldn't have fucked it up worse than me... I just checked the round that all of my players are going in in average snake drafts and I have no one above the 5th round. I think 7 of my 16 players are being taken in the 8th. Those fucking autobots bidded the shit out of everything early.

Theres 16 teams in this league. You really cant compare your team to a standard league.I doubt any of my guys would have been drafted before the fifth round too but i feel i have a pretty decent team
Good enuff to beat Swami in the first week!

It's a deep fucking league with crazy auction auto bidding shit at first it's going to be interesting to say the least.

This auction was remarkably similar to the mocks I ran considering the number of actual people vs. autobidders. Yes, there were some shenanigans with autobidders picking kickers when they shouldn't have, but honestly everyone had the ability to be there and run their stuff for at least the first 75% of the auction.
The key was if you weren't going to show up you had to change your auction autobid amounts and focus on guys you really wanted. But look at how the Kookie Cutters did. By picking up both the top two RBs (even at ridiculous cost) the trade he made later was able to round out his team better.

Yep, I did pretty good with the trade and just pounded the waiver wire some and dropped some of the rookies who were cut and picked up a few guys who may be going places.
I'm pretty happy with my team at the moment, now to see what we can do.

I'm pretty happy with the trade as well. Left me with some definite shortcomings at TE and WR but having CJ makes me hopeful. I love how absolutely barren the available players in this league are.

Yep yep, worked out for us both.
Now its just watching for breakout stars from the rookies, injuries to starters elevating backups, or old pros fighting for another season or three stepping their game back to form after some some prime years (Lawrence Maroney!!!, but also Jamal Lewis is looking to catch on somewhere, bunch of others).
But yah, right now the waiver wire is has-beens or never-was'es and kids with potential but 4th string or practice squad bench riders.

I thought i was gonna lose the last game,he had a good team too.I was lucky Holmes and Knox had good games.Getting a good TE this late in the year with Gates down was lucky too.

Vick will be the #1 pick in many leagues next year. I'm dying to see what happens in a number of coaching situations and the draft to get an idea of who will go where. If Kubiak is fired I'd have a hard time taking Arian Foster early. If Deangelo Williams is released or traded then Jonathon Stewart becomes a first rounder.

Houston Texans are on Bill Cowhers short list.Like to see him go to Cleveland tho, just so Pittsburgh can beat him twice a year.
