I over healed because I was watching Air Jaws II today. It was worth it.

The guy was sitting on top of a whale carcass as great whites fed on it. Ballsy.

I want a reality TV show where they throw Favre, ARod, Lohan, and the cast of Jersey Shore into a shark feeding frenzy. I can then die happy.

Best thread ever! Shark week is the best week on tv!

Btw... Great Whites are obviously the best type of shark out there.

Last night they had Air Jaws II. It makes me simultaneously excited and terrified.

Last night they had Air Jaws II. It makes me simultaneously excited and terrified.

They were saying its an adapted hunting style the sharks are doing in order to catch the seals that keep out manuevering them. The sharks come from below, straight up, hard and fast to take out the seal without them knowing it.

That makes me really appreciate shallow water when I'm not in a boat. Especially considering the ones 15 ft. and over are tipping the scales at 1000+ pounds.

Scary.

I heard the biggest great whites about between 19-21 feet and about 4 thousand pounds...

I'd be more worried about a 12-15 foot tiger shark than a 21 foot great white. JUST SAYING!

I'd be worried about any shark over 10ft.

JUST SAYING!

Last time i was at Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, it kinda scared me fishing off of the pier, because motherfuckers were catching ONLY sharks. Made me think twice about being in the water swimming, and that kinda shit usually doesnt bother me.

I caught an alligator when I was crabbing at Myrtle Beach when I was like 7. It ate my chicken. :[

mako's and blue's fit that description and are pretty harmless. And by pretty I mean like 10 fatalities in the last 500 years.

That's a lot less than the 13 people a year killed by vending machines.

How would you like to be one of those 10?

*And seriously. How confident are you of the record keeping 500 years ago?

The exact time frame doesn't matter. If you compare the mortalities to other sharks, other predators, or other mundane parts of our lives, it shows that's they are relatively harmless.

And, dying is dying. Getting eaten by shark sucks, but so does colon cancer.

Edit: Also, I'd rather get eaten by shark doing something I enjoy like free diving or spearfishing, than getting killed by a something totally lame.

With shoddy recording keeping or questionable records - how will you make a valid comparison?

Bullsharks scare the shit out of me, since they can/do go really far up into rivers and have no problem being in shallow water.

Go back 50-100 years if it makes you feel better. Shark attacks had an increase after WW2, due to an increase of recreational usage of beaches for swimming, surfing, fishing, ect, so just use that data. I would imagine that is accurate enough, even though it would cause the estimates to be higher.

They had lots of clips of bull sharks getting air going after seals.

The video of the diver in the bahamas (Stuart diving) feeding sharks by hand then catching one and scratching it on the chin like a cat (and the shark appeared to enjoy it) was pretty fucking impressive.
