View Full Version : Embarassing Movies You Still Love

The topic is self-explanatory (and hopefully not yet done).
We all have them, movies that are essentially universally panned yet you still love them. List your shame with pride!
My most recent I guess would be Knight and Day with Tom Cruise. It made the movie industry doubt he was a leading man, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Na, what made people doubt him was Scientology and that stuff on Opera. I enjoyed the movie though, I think too many people were expecting Mission Impossible or Minority Report or something.

On topic though, Hudson Hawk. Love that movie.

Also:
Starship Troopers
Super Mario Brothers
Babylon AD
Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
It's not even the original one. At least the original had Ja Rule looking like a turtle yelling "Monica" and people living their life a quarter mile at a time and Paul Walker getting the money AND the respect.

Starship Troopers for the mother fucking win.
Same with surf ninjas, conan, and tank girl.
To add a new one... a knights tale. I can't help it. For some reason Heath Ledger's "smile" that splits his head in half like the reach toothbrush commercials and the dialogue just get me.

Is Tank Girl the movie where the dude had like the water jugs that would suck water out of a persons body?

I saw Lilo and Stitch in theatres, talk about embarrassing.
I have to say the most embarrassing thing I see lately is the Twilight saga. My friend and I waited three weeks to see the current one and we went at 9 am, practically whispered to the ticket guy so no one would overhear what we were seeing, and then we sat where no one would really notice us in the theatre. Funny thing is, I hate those movies! So doesn't really fit into this but still!

Damn, half of those movies everyone listed are AWESOME!
Since someone said Three Ninjas I'll have to go with that also. I probably watched that movie 300 times, as it was the only movie my parents let me watch on HBO at the time.
Mighty Nikkisaurus
07-28-2010, 12:06 AM
You know, the more I think on it the more I tend to prefer/enjoy totally shit, mindless movies. I've come to be wary that "Great movie" is code for "Really disturbing and has a fucked up ending". I think this started with the first time I watched Requiem for a Dream. I was in a pretty bad depression already at the time, but I had no idea what the movie was about. "Omg you haven't seen this movie?! YOU MUST SEE IT!!" Yeah, I sobbed for like two hours after that movie and ever since have eyed 'great movies' with suspicion. It couldn't have been too scarring though because whenever I hear a strong New England accent I immediately think of "ass to ass" and start snickering.

Yeah...sometimes I think about that line in the shower.
I'll be overlapping others' choices on this one.
Surf Ninjas
The Three Ninjas (+ Three Ninjas Knuckle Up and Three Ninjas Kick Back)
Evolution
Starship Troopers
Clue
Radioland Murders
Strange Wilderness
The Frighteners
Push
Hitman
The Last Unicorn
Hollywood Homicide
The Chipmunk Adventure (I watched this again recently and noticed the Chipettes were singing about "getting lucky". As in, "tell me what it takes to get lucky with you." !!)
Cannibal the Musical
More I can't think of.
A lot of the previous ones I don't feel are weird to like at all. Labyrinth? Who doesn't like Labyrinth!? But yeah. It's widely accepted amongst my friends that my taste is incredicrappy.

I think the most embarrassing thing is that almost every movie listed in this thread, I love. I can see why though, everytime I try to get a friend or the wifey to sit down and watch any of them, they're like, "WTF is this garbage?" Screw them.
And Pi is one of my favorite movies. Maybe becuae I'm a math freak, or maybe because it launched Aronofsy's career.

I think most of the ones I like have already been covered, but here are a few I'm vaguely embarrassed to love:
- A Knight's Tale (own it and the soundtrack)
- Killer Klowns from Outer Space (own it)
- Biodome
- That jury movie with Paulie Shore (Jury Duty?)
- Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo
- The Waterboy
- All 3 of the Transporter movies
- Crank 1 & 2
- Get Shorty
- Major League 1 & 2
- Necessary Roughness (Kathy Ireland!)
- Mom & Dad Save the World (Kathy Ireland!)
- Feds (featuring the aptly named Mary Gross)
- The Hunt for Red October
Some of the ones listed that I don't find embarrassing at all:
- Radioland Murders (why did no one like this!?)
- Evolution (own it)
- Hitman
- Clue (c'mon, how can this embarass you!?)
- Starship Troopers (there's a giant sentient pussy in the movie. This is not embarrassing in the least.)
Movies like Labyrinth, Willow, ET, The Goonies? These are classics, no one is embarrassed by them.
Because I'm a guy, I like these and that's embarrassing...
- City of Angels
- You've Got Mail
And because I'm a father, I'm slightly embarrassed to have watched these movies multiple times and liked them:
- Kung Fu Panda
- Cars
- WALL-E
Some other embarrassing movie tid-bits...
- I saw the Steve Irwin Croc Hunter movie in the theaters. Before I had kids.
- I saw Kangaroo Jack in theaters. Before I had kids.

It's not terrible, its made of fucking MAGIC. I mean, I don't know anything about the man, but keifer sutherland must be a huge fucking nerd to have consented to do the voice of raistlin majere in an animated movie that went straight to dvd.
I have to admit to liking city of angels, too... but I blame a totally unrelated angel obsession (being an atheist, I get a lot of weird looks for it).
Angel Sanctuary, which I guess is/was a series? about a reincarnated angel who is in love with his sister...who then dies, and he has to go to the underworld to save her.

Hell, I liked the Blade movies.
I saw Snakes on a Plane in theaters three times.
Also, Wild Zero is an amazing zombie movie.

I liked Snakes on a Plane, but declined to see it in the theater.
I'm not sure if this counts as a movie, but I LOVE the 'Lexx' series, aka Tales from a Parallel Universe. (Mostly the 4 with Eva Habermann.)

You want embarrassing? You got it. *sigh*
Disney/Cartoon movies
80's movies, including but not limited to...
Breakfast Club
Sixteen Candles
Pretty in Pink
Weird Science
Baby Boom
Airplane
A Christmas Story
Better Off Dead
Explorers
Fright Night
Meet the Fockers (I kinda like it better than the Parents one)
Love Actually
I own Willow, The Saint, Starship Troopers, The Cell, Knight's Tale, Mars Attacks, Evolution, Clue, Labyrinth and a slew of others.
And how the hell is A Few Good Men in this thread?! That's not embarrassing by any means. That movie is epic.
Loved most of those movies.
Better off Dead is a classic with early John Cusack.

Oh man. How could i forget Dead Alive/Braindead? Its a horrible movie, but so fuckin awesome and hilarious at the same time. More people need to see that shit, I think. Heres a couple clips, if anyone wants to see:
Two zombies fuck and the female gives birth to a zombie baby. Antics ensue.

I'm pretty sure this scene holds a record for being the goriest ever, even though its ridiculous:

I mean, you can't beat Stallone, playing a suited up cop where one of the other cops remarks,"Who do you think you are? Rambo?" And Sly repling," Rambo was a pussy." before shooting at a tanker full of drugs and gasoline surrounded by even more cops who are pissed at him.
Epic win. Cliche, but epic.

Boondocks Saints is pretty lame. After I watched it I didn't think 'wow that sucked' or anything, but it wasn't anything special--at worst: pretty derivative of way better movies. I think also it kind of got co-opted by a certain section of dumbs that never shut up about it and have intense BS fervor. My friend from Boston loves it though and I don't hold it against him.
Toy Soldiers is fucking amazing though. People should get tattoos about that fucking movie.
