I love Discovery.
The Colony (http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/colony/#mkcpgn=semdsc3/?mtag=se_1?campaign=GGL|the+colony|Colony+-+Alone|GGL+TC+Branded+-+Show+-+Alone)
For those who don't want to watch the video; "What would you do in the wake of a global catastrophe? Even if you survived it, could you survive the aftermath?
Filmed on 10 acres of abandoned neighborhood on the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, THE COLONY'S simulated environment had been left decimated by Hurricane Katrina, a naturally occurring disaster zone that was slated to be bulldozed and turned into a public park. Empty buildings, weedy streets and the backwoods are all the colonists have to work with as they scavenge essentials for survival from their surroundings while fending off threats such as wild animals and malicious outsiders.
Throughout this season, the colonists face daunting physical and emotional challenges as they attempt to survive in a world void of all the niceties they've ever known, including environmental dangers such as disastrous weather and indigenous wildlife."
I didn't see the first season...
I'm watching it tonight at 10PM. So freakin' excited!!
Anyone else excited/going to watch it?

Was the first season good? I didn't even know it existed.

The setup isn't exactly realistic, but I like the concept of the show.

Did they hype the first season? This season they've hyped a bit and it looks really entertaining.
Mogonis

Yeah, they hyped it a bit. You know how Discovery incessantly plugs its shows. I didn't think the show lived up to the hype. It was kind of cheesy at times, but that's fairly common for first seasons of reality shows.

Was the first season the one where they had to fix that truck, set up traps in their warehouse and shit?

Yeah and then they threw in some weird scenarios like, people would come by begging for water and the colony would deny them, but then they'd include family members in the next group of beggars and the Colonists who's family it was wanted to help them but they'd all be fighting over whether they should or not and it was serious business.
The first season was definitely entertaining though there was a lot of ridiculousness/unrealistic scenarios. Hopefully they do a better job of that with this season.

I don't understand how this can be a reality show seeing as nobody dies in this post-apocalyptic wasteland. That's hardly the sort of realism that I feel defines a reality show.

No cannibals?
Cannibalism aside, you'd still end up killing the people who came to rob you and shit...and how effective can their booby traps be if nobody dies when they are triggered?

If there's no cannibals and/or mutants I won't be watching it!

You know what I would watch that would have both mutants and cannibals? A show about the underhive of Necromunda.

Yeah. After watching the advertisements I had to ask myself... so they got a bunch of volunteers and convinced them that there had been some sort of disaster...? Right..
I'll probably still check it out but doesn't sound plausible that these people really believed in it.
I could be completely misunderstanding the premise though. All I've seen are the commercials.

So, I loved it. Despite the big fight scene which looked a bit staged. They were hitting people with pipes but it always looked like they seriously slowed down before hitting people.
I did lol at the girl getting pepper sprayed and then getting milk poured on her face, it was like some strange erotic scene...

I watched with my brother and we were both blown away by how noone even mentioned security until after the first "fight". They absolutely pulled their punches but there were definitely a few thrown. The lazy guy definitely got elbowed a few times in the back of the head.
I love how they sprayed people with compressed air/Co2 and the people were like.... is that supposed to scare us? As for the milk... they wasted a lot just because of a little pain, they should have just sucked it up! Most of what they poured went all over the place! That being said, I hope they really step it up in the coming episodes.
I'd love to be on one of those shows, test out my survival/world knowledge.

I was PISSED that they didn't eat the snake. My boyfriend wasn't even watching it and I got up and smacked him in the shoulder and was like "WHY DIDN"T THEY EAT THE SNAKE! SAVE YOUR CANNED FOOD BITCHES! THATS PERFECTLY GOOD JUNGLE STEAK!"
He looked at me like I'd gone crazy... Seriously, WHY didn't they baracade themselves, build some sort of retaining wall around their house. I understand that they "want it to look like thats not their house" but everyone fuckin' knows man! EVERYONE KNOWS.
I think if I ever went on this show I would be put under "Spoiled Rich Kid" category and then blow that shit up. When the guy got in the girls face, I wanted her to knee him in the balls SO bad. Seriously. Would have been a way better ending to that exchange.

I was gonna comment on the snake but eh... hmmm we have a shovel, a handaxe and a lead pipe...lets smash the snake then throw it out! Then the older black guy saying he's going to be the most useful and did you hear his comment about the fishing net? "I think the fishing net will prove its usefulness if we can use it to catch fish" really? will it now?
Everyone knows that the only way to deal with strangers is to kill them and then eat them.

We should make THE COLONY - PC.
It would be full of win. Each person can bring one item, we'd have to collaborate. I call bringing my bow.
& we would eat snakes.
