Hey everyone,

I'm new to Gemstone IV, though I had some experience years and years ago with III.

I'm having difficulty finding a solid guide on initial stat allocation and basic training strategies for a starting sorcerer.

Any day 1 hour 1 type of help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated. Much of the material I'm finding seems really outdated.

Thanks!

Here, start with this: http://nilandia.com/

For a sorcerer, just remember that your bonus to CS from your stats is your (Aura Bonus + Wis Bonus)/2. Other than that, make sure you've got a decent STR to haul crap around, and a high LOG to absorb experience. You can also download the trainer spreadsheet from tsoran.com to see how your stats will grow and how many points they'll give you.

For the first month, it may be best to max your str and con, as well as logic and swing a claid. then utilize the free reallocation before your 30 days expires.

I had heard that on an initial build its best not to max out your prime requisite stats, because they need room to grow for some kind of leveling purpose. Is this true?

And thanks for the assistance so far.

That's true. Look up the Gemstone Stat cruncher. That'll mix up the stats. There are two schools of thought. Max stats at level 100, or max training points (used to get skills) per level.

I go even-handed:

Strength (STR): 80
Constitution (CON): 70
Dexterity (DEX): 65
Agility (AGI): 65
Discipline (DIS): 70
Aura (AUR): 80
Logic (LOG): 70
Intuition (INT): 60
Wisdom (WIS): 80
Influence (INF): 20

Influence is pretty useless for a sorc.

Mind you, this game takes a long time to get to 100. Most people don't cap, but enjoy the game regardless.

Your stats do grow with your levels, and some people who are aiming for level 100 set them to grow so that they have maxed stats at cap. Doing that means you get fewer training points overall, but the payoff can be worth it. The major downside to doing it when you're a low level, though, is that you'll have to tank your prime stats, since they grow the fastest, and you'll be incredibly crappy to start. A balance between the two extremes (maxed stats at cap and maxed stats for leveling) is generally the best.

Cap, grow weary, blow the top of your head off with a shotgun.

So, after INF, whats the next least important stat for a sorc? can I "tank" CON and DIS if I end up with 91 and 90 at cap, respectively?, everything else at 100 and INF at 78?

At cap, mine will be:
STR 93
CON 88
DEX 100
AGI 94
DIS 100
AUR 100
LOG 100
INT 90
WIS 100
INF 73

I'd make yours for a shorter term. Max out Aura and Wisdom earlier than I did, for maximum CS benefit, for example.

The first 4 give you Physical Training Points (PTP)
The last 4 give you Mental Training Points (MTP)
The middle two give both.

If you stack towards cap, you'll have less ability to train in stuff. Training in stuff is good, and has more of an impact on stuff you do, typically, than stats does.

I'm looking at it from a shattered perspective, where I'll be doing quite a bit afk underhunting, and I definitely am planning on reaching cap. I feel like str should be at 100 for carrying capacity, dex and agi for dodging CMs and whatnot.

That basically leaves just con and dis , if theres no major downside to not having them 100, then I feel like thats where I can sacrifice points from.

I also have added a few to aura and wisdom so they max a little before cap (~70) so they shouldnt be as painfully low while levelling.

my stats would be:
Level 0 cap
STR: 88 100
CON: 77 91
DEX: 65 100
AGI: 79 100
DIS: 60 90
AUR: 60 100
LOG: 62 100
INT: 75 100
WIS: 74 100
INF: 20 78

I understand my CS wont be quite all it could be for many middle levels, but its really only about 5-10 points maybe? and as long as its all made up at cap, I think I can slog it through the lower levels and be happy at cap?

Your experience gaining and absorption is stat-determined. Log and Dis.
Con has an effect on encumbrance, iirc.

Damnit, dis affects absorption? I dont think I want that to not be at 100 then. Looks like I drop a couple wisdom to get that to 100 then. I cant have it all, so con isnt going to be max, str is a more important factor in encumbrance anyways right?

Thanks for the advice, and sorry for the threadjack, but I hope it's helpful to you anyway OP
