This is in relation to my post on the elves in vaalor that treat everyone like shit except their own kind. Wouldn't it be better if simutronics just started any non-elves in icemule or the landing like they used to. This way new or returning players wont immediately be turned off by the game by getting stuck in ta'vaalor and not understanding that its just the elven nations elves that treat you like crap. Seems like its just bad business and would be costing simu money to start other races in Ta'vaalor who may not know why everyone sucks there. Just a thought.

I dunno. I do think that switch negatively effected population totals.

You can get around it. Premium accounts allow you to choose where your character starts out. You have the ability to travel.
Their roleplaying is annoying to non-elves, yes, but it's what the culture was created to be. They're perfectly within the spirit of the roleplaying aspect of the game. In fact, it's probably easy to argue that they are very much in line with what was intended.
My character is also a half-elf. He's dealt with his fair share of shit from elves. As would be expected of someone who doesn't want to deal with that aspect of elven culture, he actively avoids Vaalor. When it comes to him, I enjoy the RP that comes out of it. The OP is talking about that girl Vilorcasdra. When Showal ran into her in WL, he picked up immediately on the type of character she was and ran with it. She needed help finding places so he made her hold his hand and made a big deal out of it, calling it a "date". Come on, really. It's not that bad.
Vaalor is a tiny tiny portion of Elanthia. You don't have to go to it. The hunting's not that good there. The city itself kinda sucks. Get out of there.

Newbs HAD to go to it. Throw on assholes like Mharaid and hubby and you got new players thrown to a fortress filled with xenophobic assholes or people who didn't want to roleplay the docs at all. Bad combo.

I think his point is that characters start there, a new to gemstone individual could start in Vaalor and not even know there were other cities he could travel to yet.

Illistim should've been the developed newb town and Vaalor an isolated fortress for the high leveled.

I don't disagree with you that it is good RP for the elves to act like this but your still missin the point hear showal. New players arent gonna start with a premi account and are forced to go to it. This is why it is bad for the population.

I was in Vaalor like a day after returning from GS and I was shocked at how snobby the people were. Now it's probably called roleplaying but I either forgot about this or am missing a storyline as to why they behave that way! If I was entirely new and had nowhere else to go, I probably wouldn't want to continue just because it makes you feel so awkward when you don't know the full story as to what was going on.
That being said, there were two players who were both snobby and willing to explain to you why they were snobby. Kudos to them, but I forgot who it was already.

It's not really hard: If you're gonna RP a douche, whisper to someone you haven't interacted with before, and let them know.

What's really missing here is a third thread about the same topic.

No, don't think there is many new people coming in. That's why I would like the few who do to enjoy it and stick around.
I do now realize that this problem has been fixed, although from the responses I got on this thread I don't think many other people realized it before now either. LOL I love all the feedback I got suggesting that I was literally pissed here. I was laughing when I wrote this post and still laughing reading the replies I got to it. Kudos to the people who did get it and understand that this was bad for the game.

Gabriela Quintera of Rodrigo y Gabriela. She's not there because she's supposed to be hot, she's there because she is one of the best guitarists ever.

On the question of "are there new players coming in?" I have to say I've noticed a decent number in the past month or so. People who legit have no idea about the game, and are obvious first timers. A few of them even manage to show up on LNet, which I thought was mainly providence of seasoned GS'ers.
I hope this trend continues. I miss the higher population days.
Also agree that Illistim should be the newbie drop city in EN.

Deron is an Elf in Prime.. I wonder if I should go to TV and RP an elven vagabond that is disgusted with the racism of his people and vows revenge via the spilling of much blood and the stealing of much treasure.
