A rogue, as in rebel not the brand,c beer attacked my laptop a couple nights ago and has completely fucked my keyboard.

I tried the ol' rubbing alcohol and air in a can tricks to no avail. Maybe 1/6th of the keys function and the keyboard has a tendency to start repeating the letter 'c' with no apparent way of stopping it.

When this 'c' attack isn't going on, I've been using a USB keyboard which works just fine, even if it looks sort of goofy.

Anyway, I've just decided to attempt to disable the built-in keyboard until I can afford to repair/replace it.

What would be the cccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc cccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc ccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccvc vcvcvcvcvcvcvccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccvcvcvcv cbmchcccc - a c attack

best way to accomplish this? BIOS? Hardware manager? Or am I going to have to pop the case and unplug something?

Lappy is an ASUS UL50VT if that helps.

pop the case, and unplug the keyboard.

Shit.

Really not the answer I wanted to hear.

I'm going to give it the rubbing alcohol, toothbrush, and canned air treatment one more time before I try to pop anything open.

It's all fancy and thin so I'm sure getting it apart will be a complete bitch.

Keyboards are usually easy- you don't need to unscrew the whole case. Take off the plate covering the buttons. It usually just snaps off. The keyboard screws will be visible, probably 4 of them or so. Pop those off, unplug the wire, hook it back up and you're good to go.

pop the case, and unplug the keyboard.

This. It should be really easy, I think you're making it out to be more difficult than it is. While you're in there you can attempt to clean it but results aren't always favorable.

Be ultra cool. Leave the keyboard out, which leaves a space which you can stuff one of those rollup USB keyboards inside for easy carry.

Stop by Starbucks, open the laptop - whip out the rollup keyboard and look all avant garde! Finish typing, stuff keyboard back into laptop and go on about your day. You might even be able to carry a notepad, pens and other items inside as well!

If you're really stylin' you could use the CDROM as a cup holder.

The situation seems to have gone from bad to worse.

About an hour ago it turned into a brick. Nothing would turn on or light up.

Now when there is power, I get taken to the BIOS screen but am unable to make anything happen.

Not sure if this is fluid working its way through the system and will eventually resolve itself.

I'm pretty convinced that I've made myself a $700 brick.

The root beer has probably eaten away at your circuits. Once during EG I spilled a diet Dr Pepper on my keyboard, cleaned it immediately, but it still stopped working on me.

Wires don't mix well with soda.

It's beer.

And it's back up and running with USB mouse and keyboard.

I don't have the little screwdriver needed to disassemble and unplug the internal keyboard.

You should be able to disable the internal keyboard from the control panel - keyboard or from control panel -- system -- device manager. It should be the standard 101 key keyboard listed.

Don't tell him these things!

Yea, you can just go to control painal>keyboard and fuck it up from there.

Beer is probably worse. Nice.
