Though I'm sure many of you have figured this out, I figured I'd post it for all those who are unaware of the beautiful vitamin B-1 also known as Thiamine.
Thiamine is a vitamin essential to two entirely separate processes in humans: it is required for the oxygen-dependent part of the metabolism of carbohydrates (and alcohol) to produce energy and thiamine is also required for the membrane polarization /depolarization step in nerve transmission
The effect of these two separate processes that both require thiamine means that alcohol consumption under conditions where the vitamin is limited, diverts available thiamine away from the brain to break down the alcohol. After this is exhausted, alcohol remaining is converted to fat, but in the interim, high levels of intermediate products of alcohol breakdown (prior to the thiamine-dependent step) float around in the blood and enter the brain. In order to dilute the alcohol and its breakdown products, water is drawn out of the tissues (including the brain) into the blood, dehydrating these tissues.
Dehydration causes an array of symptoms which are often mistaken for "just being drunk" including light-headedness.
Second, try to take a thiamine tablet 40-60 minutes before the first drink (alcohol reduces thiamine absorption and besides, you may throw up later!) However, thiamine tablets anytime during the evening with food are OK.
Taking thiamine before you drink is important if you're trying to ward off a hangover. However, it is also important to keep taking thiamine throughout the night depending on how long and how much you're drinking.
DOSAGE:
The following is a useful guide to your thiamine supplementation:
* 1-2 drinks - forget it, this amount of alcohol is food!
* 3-6 drinks - at least 1x100mg thiamine tablet;
* 6-9 drinks - at least 2x100mg thiamine tablets;
* >>10 drinks - take as many tablets as you can see, and don't forget that bucket!
Examples:
* 2x100mg tablets for a standard bottle of wine
* 5x100mg tablets for a 750ml bottle of vodka
My brother sent me an article similar to the one I found these facts in. He has tested this theory, far too much. His only complaint is that it takes a bit more than you expect to take you to the same place. But regardless of how much you drink, you still feel much better in the morning than if you hadn't taken your B-1!
Of course, remember to hydrate and eat something before and during your time out having fun.

I have also heard claims that because B-1 has an effect on the brain and memory it can ward off potential GHB attacks and alcohol black outs.
I can't really find information to support that, but its just food for though.

Drink 2 full glasses of water before going to bed.
Take 3 advil.
Sleep it off.
In the morning, drink a 5 hour energy drink and another 2 full glasses of water.
Enjoy the day.
I find just drinking a bunch of water when I get home solves my problems.

Nope. I don't really drink all that much. I haven't been "drunk" in over a year. But I figured it was something worth posting.

A sport bottle of gatorade, half at night half in the morning is usually plenty for me. But I'm not a big drinker. This is more for the people who drink a lot...

I've never been hung over. I just remember to have at least 2 big glasses of water after I'm done drinkin. Makes the evening even more fun - because drunks sure do a great job of bladder control.

I've never had a hangover. And I only get sick if I mix my alcohol, such as having a few glasses of wine, then drinking a rum a coke, then having something else with vodka.
These days I mainly drink tequila. Either shots or mixed drinks with tequila but I don't mix the alcohol type. Although I could spend a whole afternoon drinking daiquiris of any flavor and type and I'm fine, just a silly drunk for a few hours.

Well since I'm the board alcoholic I'll testify.
I never get hangovers either. I always pop a regular multi vitamin and a b complex before bed and chug some g2 gatorade and leave the rest of the bottle on the nightstand.
Back in the day I used to have a supply of pedolyte before I figured out my before bed routine. It tastes like shit but it will work wonders.

Never getting hangovers is different from never having a hangover.
You had a hangover at least one hangover in your early drinking days.. realized how fucking God awful it is.. and now you take every precaution to never experience that living Hell again.

Since I usually get hungry later in the night, I eat stuff that's high in sodium and that tends to do the trick too, along with a big glass of water followed by a good fapping.

Sleeping on the floor isn't why you're waking up sore after you pass out...

I get hangovers pretty easily, though they're never terribly extreme. I feel a little sick to my stomach and that goes away after some sort of suitably greasy breakfast, and then I'll take an aspirin with some gatorade if I have a headache. Usually an hour or so after I wake up I feel better.
I've found exercise helps a lot too. Nothing terribly strenuous but even just going for a thirty minute brisk walk makes me feel better if I got trashed the night before.

This is true. I only learned how to avoid them as MUCH as possible which also included drinking in the morning. Can't have a hangover if you're still buzzed. (which led to detox)

I used to take 5 hour energy pretty regularly until I noticed how it really fucks with your throat. I used to take on in the morning before exercising and while the first few times it gave me more energy, especially after stopping, it made me pretty susceptible to catching a cough type cold.
Would it peg me as a stick-in-the-mud if I said: just don't drink to excess?
Maybe if you drank to excess you'd get more sticks in the mud.
I'm amazed you can drink till you pass out cold and never get a hangover.
I spent years being hung over every other day. Bad times. I tried everything except stopping drinking to combat the next day horror.

I've really only ever had a couple "kill me now" hangovers and those were early in my drinking career.
Though one night of revelry has resulted in my inability to drink Captain Morgan anymore. Just the smell of it makes my entire system angry at me.

B-1 is also supposed to curb nausea. The few times I've drank enough to warrent taking b-1 I was not sick to my stomach in any way.
I'm sensitive to alcohol especially anything carbonated or foamy. I take b-1 and I don't feel sick during the night or the morning after.

My friends have recently taken to the whole bros icing bros thing, and that shit is awful on my system. It's really easy to drink, but the heart burn is terrible. I don't really have any problems w/ my head after drinking anymore, but I'm pretty good about drinking tons of water, rarely if I don't drink enough water my muscles will be a bit achy the next day and it goes away quick, but if I do feel effects from drinking the night before it's usually in the form of my stomach hurting, sometimes a greasy meal fixes it, sometimes it doesn't.
I was drinking last night (as evident by some of my posts) and just drank a ton of water and got enough sleep where I didn't feel any ill effects this morning. (And don't worry Ross, I always take the T/Walk when drinking)

The only time I get a hangover is when I drink more than my body can process causing dehydration which results in the sack around my brain shrinking and giving me a headache.
Now that I'm an old fart I just don't drink so much anymore. I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I had a hangover.

Stop drinking with frat boys an that sack on your head problem will stop.
Another way to avoid the pain of hangovers which is much more fun is to drink at the very least a six pack of beer a night for a few months. Your system will adjust and you just feel like you are operating normally. Eventually you can even increase the amount. This method is not cheap and eventually will put you in an early grave. Good luck.

I heard about it a few months ago, no one likes that it exists... no one. It is lame, but once you've been iced, all you want is revenge. It's a terrible savage cycle.
Smirnoff cease and desisted the main site that started it... which could just be more clever marketing. I don't know.

Wasn't sure what 'bros icing bros' was, so I google safe searched it.
There’s a reason Smirnoff Ice was chosen in a drinking game the object of which is not to drink: Smirnoff Ice is terrible. It is Limeade-scented Clown Sweat in a bottle. One flavor of Smirnoff Ice is just Sunshine Punch Kool-Aid mixed with farts. For Raspberry Burst Smirnoff, they put rubbing alcohol and Good n’ Plenty in a blender and flushed it down a prison toilet. It’s like someone wiped their ass with a pear and stapled it to your tongue. One time a convicted rapist fucked a produce section and the result was Pomegranate Fusion Smirnoff Ice. It’s like someone force-fed a fruit cup to a cow and then took it back out four stomachs in. Smirnoff Ice tastes like someone dropped a tube of strawberry lipsmackers into a bucket of cologne. You’d think someone dug up Carmen Miranda’s corpse and fermented it in an old paint can but it’s actually an Ice. If Jolly Ranchers could piss, it would taste like Strawberry Acai Smirnoff Ice.
Read that. Made me lol.

Haha, awesome and true. I'm guessing the game was not made up by Smirnoff. The whole point is that Smirnoff Ice is so awful that you want to be avoid being iced and if you can, bring it back down on the icer.
Sort of unrelated: I don't get the new "acai berry" flavored vodkas (I think Absolut just released one). Acai tastes okay but it's trendiness is due to the supposed health benefits, and the booze defeats that purpose.

Yeah, you get style points for grosser flavors and warm stale icings... I don't think Smirnoff made it up either. I asked a guy at the package store, and he said the sales have been way up though.
Either way, getting iced sucks. I covertly stole the captain of my kickball teams keys, snuck out of the bar, went to the package store, bought a case, put them on the front seat of his truck, relocked his truck, and snuck his keys back to him. That's my 'cleverest' icing so far (He bought some 15 or so Smirnoff ices the bar and mass iced our team, so this was revenge. Don't worry he didn't drink them and drive home, he 'owes them' to me ... and when he went to go settle up, the bartender iced him with the bill).
