So, yesterday I posted a bit of art that garnered a little bit attention but inspired me to be a bit more open with my art. A lot of it is video game inspired but some of it's just random.

Most of them are drawn by hand, edited/touch up in photoshop but there are some paintings I did that were further enhanced in photoshop. I'll probably also post information and answer questions.

First, I'll start with the one that got some pretty good attention.

http://i1032.photobucket.com/albums/a403/Ribbons_Almark/knight.jpg

This one was exceptionally hard. I wanted to keep the raw style while still making it look incredible. It started out on normal paper and as I progressed I felt it looked rather lonely. I scanned it and went into photoshop. I was fiddling with backgrounds while attempting to keep the knight in the picture. It was impossible to do so I decided to make the background first and simply crop the knight in. I felt satisfied with the final product and saved it. This was close to a year or two ago, before I entered the Marines.

The second drawing I submit to you.

http://i1032.photobucket.com/albums/a403/Ribbons_Almark/guild_sisters.jpg

This one was fairly difficult. This was a drawing commission I did when I was still in high school. A friend of mine was writing a fanfic about Monster Hunter and wanted me to draw her main characters. The story was about long lost twins, one a hunter and the other working for the guild. I suppose the hardest part was getting (almost everything) to synch up with the other. Even the skirts (to an extent) are synched up if you hadn't noticed. This was done by hand and some minor touch ups in photoshop.

My third drawing that I submit to you.

http://i1032.photobucket.com/albums/a403/Ribbons_Almark/royal_dress.jpg

This one was fairly easy to begin with. If you couldn't tell, I was going for a butterfly looking dress, I think I accomplished that look. The color was done partially in photoshop because I wanted the coloring to be eye catching. I did mess up on the left arm a little, it's non-existant but I think it's okay due to the angle.

My fourth drawing that I submit to you.

http://i1032.photobucket.com/albums/a403/Ribbons_Almark/female_wizardess.jpg

This one really brings back memories. Back in high school a local art school was hosting a contest and was saying they would pay for the tuition of the winner. As soon I heard about it I immediately got to work on this one. I really wanted to win so I spent literally days at my canvas attempting to come up with a suitable design. Thirty odd hours in and this beauty popped into my head. Man, I stayed up day and night to get this painting to perfection. As the deadline drew near I scanned it and did my absolute best to make it presentable. I photoshopped till my wrist went numb, literally. When the day came, I printed it out and brought the original with me. I covered the original with the photoshop and was sure I won it. Unfortunately, I was disqualified for using 'untraditional' means. Pissed, I scrapped the original. Yeah, shortly after that happened my teacher approached me and offered to hang up the picture for the entire school to see. I gave him a copy of the printed version. I think that's what made me pretty popular in high school. Painting this beauty. (Don't ask why I put a cowbell in there. I have no idea myself. I drew her face, the rest is painted.)

Heh, my skills have diminished over the years. I did upload some more to my photobucket account though. Most of them are female. So much easier to draw females.

I know right? I used to draw... now I don't. I could never draw people but sometimes I managed to draw a girls face pretty nicely... thats about it.

but no really, draw me.... from your imagination. Make me sick nasty.

Ha, no. I tend to stray from pornographic drawings (as best I can) simply because they end up looking awkward.

Okay. Do that. Considering I let other employees check websites and relax on down time I am doing nothing hypocritical, but whatever floats your boat.

I am posting while eating a late lunch after helping fold laundry, check out guests, walk the property with maintenance, organizing bills, etc and so forth.

It is called multi-tasking. :)

At least I'm not playing GS. I haven't slipped that far!

I don't like charging people for something I love to do (or did) in my spare time.

If you don't have much spare time right now, this would afford you the ability to do it more often. You should respect your skills and know that they have value, it's nice that you're willing to help people out for free, but they are willing to pay you for a reason, you should accept it.

That fourth drawing is really awesome, I actually didn't notice the cowbell as out of place until you pointed it out.

I like to draw but if it's an obligation to be exchanged for money it becomes work. I hate work. I might draw some people (If my skills aren't too rusty) and post them up here. I know, I know, I'd be missing out on a money grabbing opportunity but I would rather draw for pleasure and not business.

I'm weird like that.

The key is to just make sure you're able to keep it from becoming work. I know someone who works drawing as a living for a cartoon, and it drains her ability to want to do creative work ... drawing something repetitive and not really of your own creation can sap you.

The nice thing about commissioned GS portraits, you can refuse if you'd like.

Art is meant to be spontaneous. Two drawings up there were for a purpose but it was a purpose that I liked. The other two were because I simply got the idea in my head or from a video game that inspired me.

Not to mention 'art' today is only golden if you've got Uncle Sam squatting over the Lady of Liberty.

I know this feeling. Doing art all day long for crappy tourism t-shirts has almost completely stolen my desire to draw in my free time. I don't like to complain, because it's better than digging ditches for a living, but it's certainly a bummer to have something you enjoy turn into a chore.

The nice part about doing art for free is that you can take your time and tell people to fuck off if they complain about it.

Well I didn't know it was a pokemon to be honest. I was more curious why you didnt just clone it out rather than do the crop which did away with the sword and the end of the sheath/stick thing on his back?
That and the fact that I don't understand how/why you were fiddling around with backgrounds trying to keep the knight in the picture then you cut part of the knight out.

This was back when I was a teenager so my tastes were pretty weird. Now that I'm an adult it'd be embarrassing to have someone go 'Hey, I remember that pokemon'. Hence the crop.

Self conscious, even more so now that it's been dug up from somewhere else. Indeed, I submitted it elsewhere uncropped. This was a more adult oriented board though.

Clear things up?

Nieninque
07-20-2010, 03:00 PM
Well it didn't really answer the question to be honest. Why not just clone it out? If you have the ability to produce these in photoshop and wanted to remove part of it, why the hatchet job? A simple clone would have removed the pokemon and would have been far easier than drawing the thing in the first place.

Where did you submit it when you had the pokemon, by the way?

Rusty. I'm not so great anymore and I don't have photoshop on my current computer. So I used what I had at the moment, which was just a photo gallery program.

It's been a while. I can't remember exactly where. It's been on the internet for a while though. It's what I get for not putting my signature on it.

Despite what you might, if I think you're thinking what you are, I did do this. It was a pain in the ass and it's fairly insulting to have you think, if you are indeed thinking what you are, that it's stolen. :/
