While not exactly a total novice when it comes to Wizards, I have been away for about 6 years. Upon my return, I hopped on my 28 Human Wizard to try out some of the new features that have been added. I shortly discovered that my wizards low STR and CON(54 str, 48 con) seemed to be much more of an issue than before. Bandits and anything with Cman type attacks seem to totally rip me a new one, as I always seem to be encumbered(boils seem to end me about every time as well). So... I've rerolled a new Halfling Wizard. He's 10 trains now and I'd really like an experienced Wizard to let me know what to set his stats to for growth.

Not sure why you went with halfling if you don't want any enc. issues. Go with one of the stronger races.

Placing stats for growth isn't really an issue anymore, since you can buy a Fixstat potion after you cap and redo your stats then for instant perfection.

Place them for whatever will help you level up easier.

Thanks for the quick responses. While halflings have the negative strength, I figured the bonus they get to constitution would sort of balance that out. Con plays a large role in encumb right? I could just be flat out wrong about this.

Fixstat potions are incredibly expensive. I figured it would be easier to just get another Wizard to 28 with less gimped stats, than to accumulate the insane amount of bounty points required to get a fixstats potion. I'm not sure that I want to play the original wizard to that extent in his current condition.

He can hit up to 265 AS with signs. Workable? I almost hope that it's not as I'm not too happy with my characters' name/weakness.

Halflings make great wizards. I rarely have encumbrance problems with a halfling wizard. Just purge after every hunt. It's not like a wizard has to carry much anyway: runestaff, cloak, couple wands, full leather.

If you're having trouble with bandits, try just about anything else. It's really the opposite of what a wizard should be getting into and probably the only circumstance in which they have a distinct weakness. (And only because the cmans start from hiding so you can't level the room preemptively). To tell you the truth, my rogue has had much more trouble with cmans than my wizards because wizards kill things way too fast for them to begin to be a problem.

Thanks for all of the helpful information. The link to download Tsorans' spreadsheet was especially helpful towards getting my stats where they needed to be. I guess I should have paid more attention to his website as I knew of Tsorans' maps but not about this spreadsheet.
