View Full Version : Dear ladies, gay dudes and fashionistas. Bag.

Alright. I've been wearing the same backpack for since-it-was-acceptable-to-wear-a-backpack. And now, well, my main superior sort of said, "Do you need this?" And showed me a shoulder-worn duffel bag. From the early 19th Century.

Alright, so I have no idea how this works. I need something that I can carry stuff in. The most important thing is that it doesn't look gay, but also doesn't look like I'm trying too hard.

And if we are heading towards the gay route of recommendation, I want something that absolutely screams, "OMG, Original Ray-Ban Wayfarers, you are just *too* retro, thilly."

And if we're going in the trying-too-hard direction, I require nothing but the latest in adamantium. Leather. Adamantium leather from a peacefully euthanized koala, that isn't really leather, but costs more than actual leathery adamantium ... and then I go around hovering a few feet above the ground in the lotus position like Dhalsim and drink wine while always steering the conversation to my advantage where I can boast about how I fondle my pet hybrid SUV that recycles its own CO2 emissions and shits them out of its tailpipe as non-puppy mill-raised seeing eye dogs. That are trained to recycle. And administer dog CPR.

Obviously I quit carrying a knife or gun in New York since they're a bunch of pussy liberals. I hate carrying shit at all in my pockets but...

Cell phone in cargo pocket.

Smokes in cargo pocket with lighter in the pack.

Sunglasses inside of shirt collar where barely visible (so I don't sit on that shit)

Money/ID/Bank cards solo wrapped in a rubber band in pocket.

It really depends on how much you plan on carrying around and such. Ogio and Oakley make some really nice bags, my Ogio has lasted through 4 years of school and travel and is only very slightly faded. Check out Zappos.com and see if you see something you like. If you plan on travelling a lot, they make a few duffel bags that have a zip-off 'daypack' which seems pretty nice.

Anyway, I agree with the pocket solution personally, but I literally only carry that list.

I kinda like that. Would a man look gay with that?

I'm just using an old, beat-up backpack right now, and considering something new, too. I carry around books and a ball-gag for my hypno-slaves.

I agree with Back on this one.

I wish this is all I had to carry though. I've actually stopped carrying a knife these days (which is a pity because I had this sweet folding ceramic knife). You get real funny looks from the other parents in the play area when you open one up and start to cut apart a mcdonalds happy meal cheeseburger..

What I carry now ..

wallet
keys
cell phone
Appointment book - Because I can't stand the ones on cellphones
Meds
BP machine
Laptop (depending on where I go)
Notepad/pens
Assorted emergency baby stuffs
(When the wife's not around and we go out the baby shiz doubles)

There's no way I could carry all this shit on my person. Generally I just go down to the Gap and pick up whatever messenger bag they have that's on sale. The one I got now is a plain grey canvas I got for $10 bucks.

Casual:
Wallet (back pocket or cargo pocket)
iPhone (front pocket or cargo pocket)
Keys (front pocket)

Business attire:
Wallet (back pocket)
iPhone (in hand or in front pocket)
Keys (front pocket - opposite phone)
Business Card Holder (breast pocket)
Pen (Mont Blanc) (breast pocket)
Rarely if ever do I carry a briefcase, and its a soft sided one if I need it.

You guys carry too much shit.

Delias

Wallet in my right pocket. Keys in my left pocket. If I bring a cell phone, left pocket with keys. If I am wearing my sunglasses, they go in my shirt pocket if I take them off.

When I go to work I take my briefcase which contains my laptop and an assortment of techno gadgetry.

Alright I guess I will take a shot...

For day to day pretty much what everyone else said, and you didn't say if this was for work or school or what, nor how much you want to spend nor how you dress when you use it.

http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=469&Product_Id=1390080&Parent_Id=228&default_color=DARK-BROWN&sort_by=&sectioncolor=&sectionsize=

That is a good starting point for a simple shoulder bag for going to and from the office if you have to dress in slacks/shirt up through a suit.

If like me you are a jeans kind of guy to work I think these briefcases are great in their look and feel. Much more casual.

I can't speak about any of these bags specifically, since I don't own one nor does anyone I know, but the company carries very high quality items, so I'd trust them if you like the style. But it depends on your budget and just what you need.

How long have you had yours? What color? And I hope you are a bit hard on it. Mine is damn sexy. I got it for 50% off due to one of their "specials". But I would pay full price in a minute if I needed another.

Happen to have any pics of the "aging"?

And do you use any kinds of leather oils on it?

My bad, my backpack was for school. It is not ... what's a good word? Uh, conducive to my work environment.

My office environment is sort of "You can wear jeans, no problem, they just need to be at least $300 dollars. Stonewashed by Tibetan sweatshop monks. And still have the price label on them."

I carry everything in my pockets, plus I have a sort of mandatory belt the Department issued me that allows me to carry around things instead of having to reach in my pocket for a knife. So that's covered.

What isn't covered are certain books/manuals/dead trees and folders that, if I somehow managed to somehow stuff in my pocket, purposely, I should probably be kicked to death by rabbits.

I like the Brooks Bro.'s bag, but I also don't want to one-up any of my COs' bags. Hmmm. This is a lot to think about.

Obviously I quit carrying a knife or gun in New York since they're a bunch of pussy liberals. I hate carrying shit at all in my pockets.

My PPNs are blank in the system. That is because I (like everyone employed in my workplace) have a comment section on a certain system where the word "voluntary" appears. Our renewal dates are 000000/The year "U" ...

What I just posted has. Nothing. To. Do. With. Bags...

...but, lol: The Year U. That would be, like, a good book or movie title. Word.

Right. Sorry: Bags.

I would seriously laugh if I saw you with the backpack on both arms walking around in the city in professional attire. (unless you had on a short sleeve shirt with a tie and pocket protectors)

Then I would die laughing.

Heh, I actually use one for my laptop at the moment. Its a lightweight canvas Kensington Laptop bag I found stashed away somewhere. Currently it holds:

Laptop, charging cord, earbud headphones, USB speakers, the book “Wine for Dummies”, pencil, small Moleskine graph paper notebook, and a small French phrase book.

You remove a voluminous black canvas Kensington laptop bag from off your shoulder.

You carefully inspect your voluminous black canvas Kensington laptop bag.

You estimate that a voluminous black canvas Kensington laptop bag can store a medium-sized amount with enough space for any number of items.

You determine that you could wear the bag, over your shoulder. The bag appears to serve some purpose.

It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of canvas.
