I also don't care for the honey coated-roasted peanuts.

Most of what I like of late is sea salt/cracked pepper whether it be cashews or peanuts. If pecans were not so crazy expensive here in FL I'd prolly go for those more often. Hard pressed to beat spanish peanuts cooked in the oven for 15 minutes with pepper on the skins, though. I don't care for almonds in any other way besides plain.

Adding honey does not enhance the flavor and the texture it gives said peanuts is awful.

Have you just tried the store bought stuff? We have a local specialty shop that carries all sorts of different types of nuts and assorted hand-made treats. The honey-roasted ones they have are only slightly sweet and the texture has just the barest amount of glaze/carmelization to them. I'd suggest giving a place like that (I'm sure there's something like that in Houston) a second try.

edit: Cinnamon-chili dusted peanuts aren't bad either.

Boiled peanuts are awesome. However I've never seen them look purple. All the ones I've ever had looked just like you'd expect them to look and taste ( just slightly softened with a salty tang).

They have them all over the place down here. The flavor can vary, depending on what they season the water with. It's usually pretty good stuff.
