So I decided that this June/July I am going to get a new pet. I'll be out of school and able to properly take care of it until the family adjusts. So obviously my parents are not for this but I know they will accept it eventually..

The question is, do I get a cat or a dog? And what kind. remember, I have a 90 pound female golden retriever that gets very jealous if we touch other dogs. We let her push our cats out of the way so she's really not had that much interaction with other pets. Any suggestions? If it's a dog, I want it big.

You should get some bacteria. Bacteria make awesome pets. Low maintenance, all your friends will envy you. Streptococcus pyogenes is especially fun, and it's guaranteed no one will ever fuck with you again.

If you're looking for a more exotic and exciting pet, might I suggest the hantavirus.

I don't like cats or dogs with no/short tails. I'd suggest a cat because they are MUCH less hassle.

I don't know if I want to deal with the cat boxes though...

And Maimara we were actually growing some bacteria today.

A ferret. I want a ferret. :(

PS - Cats totally rox0r dogs. They're quiet and fun to watch and good to scratch when you're lonely. Also they're harder to please and entertain than dogs. It's not fun if you can just say its name and it comes running. Pfft.

Dealing with a litter box is a lot better than cleaning up dog piss if your dog isn't well trained and gets overly excited when company comes. Or if you forget to walk it and you have a pleasant surprise on your carpet when you get home.

But I bet it's not the flesh-eating bacteria. :(

Doesn't count if it doesn't necrotize.

Im biased to being a dog-lover. But I hear cats are much easier to care for.

Although you could just take Maimara's suggestion and go for the Bacteria.. though it sounds scary and youd have to wear latex gloves all the time.

Latex is sexy.

I'd want a pet lemur if I ever got rich and powerful.

Archae rox0r bacteria from here to the universal common ancestor, thx.

I consider myself pretty neutral on the dog/cat thing, just remember that dogs are God's way of saying he loves us (especially our crotches, apparently) and cats are emissaries of Satan.

We have a ferret and yuck.. major yuck. And except for when our dog was a puppy (once and only once) and when she would be sick from something she never went in the house.

It sounds like your dog would do better with another dog. Why don't you get another golden retriever?

On a side note- Sugar gliders rock!

Edited to say- That tree-loving guy (is it a lemur?) is really cute.

Mother Cats/Dogs are so gross, when they're nursing. They're all saggy and have nipples the size of tea saucers.

Gotcha. Get a dog. Your other would probably enjoy the company, plus they don't suck a la cats.
