Two things.

First, drinking socially on occasion is not OK if what you're really doing is getting so plastered on those occasions that you make (or at least use it for an excuse for) bad decisions. If you can't pull back to a responsible level, then just stop altogether.

Second, feeling guilty about the fun you had does not make you a good person. Passing on the fun so that you don't put yourself in a position where you could let down your family for the ten thousandth time would make you a good person.
