installation help

So my friend was trying to install lich, right? Anyways, he downloaded ruby, downloaded lich, and ran GS through lich. Lich wouldn't connect and he couldn't figure out why.. So he figured just to try and restart his comp. After he restarted it, he couldn't connect to GS period.
So he un-installed lich figuring it was Lich that made it so he couldn't connect. After it was un-installed he tried running GS and still wouldn't connect.

Help?

Did he install Ruby and extract the Lich directory into My Documents?
