Magical Stein

Dug up an old item from my locker, someone wants to buy it but I figure I should get an appraisal

It's a stein that can be filled with water, spring water from the grocery works. Once you have water in it you can cast some spells on the stein which turns the water inside to a drinkable spell.


From what I remember:

Minor shock = haste
Bless = bravery
MD = +10 mana
Elemental Defense = ewave
Colors = Phoen's Strength
Calm= Minor Sanct

As you can see the spells gained are from the same circle of the spell cast, but once the stein is charged, anyone can drink from it.


There were other spells, but I can't remember. The stein can hold up to 20 sips of a liquid. Every 2 sips require 1 cast of a spell to charge.

Also if you are not a dwarf the stein can stun you when you drink. I would say it is close to a 1 in 10 chance, but I am unsure on the exact chance.

You tilt back your stein and take a gulp of the delicious drink.

A decent amount, the dwarf thing makes it a problem for hunting with it, and the recharge properties sort of limit it. neat item though... I'd say 50 mill or so. If you are looking to trade, let me know.

I believe the idea was later copied in an urnon chalice, or black ora chalice, but that has been since lost.

Kizun's MA crew met a bigger fish in the pond, after acting like a complete jackass (constantly casting sanctuary while a demon was interfering with it in the same room and causing a ton of screen scroll) and pissing off a merchant by calling her retarded and a bitch, and thereby infuriating her enough so that she didn't want to work anymore.

He pretended the merchant discriminated against his "wife" on the officials, and made another pissy moany thread. Alot of people called him on it (myself included, though my post got pulled because I mentioned him by name).

Topped off by the biggest epic fail i've seen in awhile when he spikethorned another character in his MA crew instead of Livn (who immolated him for his usual deucebaggery, bullying the lower level characters that were standing around tell him to leave).

In your myopic view, Tycine did nothing to initiate conflict. How everyone else sees it though: Just to be a spiteful bitch, Tycine denied the other 20-25 people in the room a chance at something like 8 to 12 more chances at being chosen to be able to make an item.

My current offer on it is a self mana prayer item, which I feel is a perfect fit for my warmage.

Only other spell I feel I need more would be Heroism, I have a couple mage rechargeables with it right now, but I've been told recharging is bunk.

As to negative effects on the stein. The chance of a stun if your not a dwarf. It gives a flat 2 round stun every time. I'll try to get a clip when I'm home from work.

Also the fact it can only hold one spell at a time. If you fill it up with 20 drinks and turn all the water (10 casts) you will have to drain it completely before you can start again.

If it is empty, it is just a basic drink holder. You can drink plain water from it if you want to, though I don't know why you would want to.

These prices are all wrong. Self mana heroism would be worth SO much more than that. If this stein really was perma haste, it'd be worth more than that. The pitslasher would be worth more than that today.


That stein is an awesome item, no doubt, but don't base your prices off what this nob says. I do have a question, can you charge the haste with iron and silver wands? Or with minor shock imbedded in a ranger wand?

I think you'd be best off holding a public auction than trying to trade behind closed doors. If you don't know the market very well set it at a MB of 100m and let all the sharks come to you, so to speak.

Have you been keeping up with what has been sold and for what price? I have... The 215 ring has sold a couple times. It's not self mana, so I used the wrong word, but the price range is accurate.

I believe it was the the 5x per day self recharging heroism that went for 90m.


I believe with the way this stein works, you could have perma-haste very easily. You'd need a bottle of water and a silver wand.

The pitslasher would be worth more IMO but this would be a suitable and obtainable substitute, unlike the short sword.

It isn't however anything close to an effective unlimited haste item, because you have to go through some motions to make it work: refill it, get it out, risk stun, drink it, put it away, etc.

It's very nice and very useful, and in my opinion worth more than prayer. Like I said in the other thread though, test it out thoroughly to make sure it doesn't have any legacy bugs and post all the results and auction it.

By the way, Inspire really has no clue about what items are worth, in spite of his claims to the contrary.

Actually 5x a day heroism for 90m is probably about right today. Who the hell knows though? The group of people who want high end things is smaller than it used to be, and a lot of those people already have the high end things they want. On the other hand, there's so much coin floating around, and it's worth so few $'s/million that prices on the items people really do want can go through the roof.

I think if I owned this stein I'd run it through the paces of various spells with the help of someone who's been playing more recently than you have and might be able to help you spot any legacy problems. Then post logs and auction it. Up to you though. Good luck.

I been pondering it for a few days, and its awesome....

But its not the pitslasher. As a haste item for 60 seconds, even with 20 charges, more work to charge, get out, etc, than its worth. Its not hard to get 100 wiregrass bracelets and imbed them with 8 charges or so in a few hour script sesssion.

As a heroism, it rocks. Again, as Kerl said, its like a gem eater, you got to work to get water, get it charged, etc., and I am fairly sure on the value.

Having said it, and fair being fair, I will match the bid for a self mana prayer item (wearable too) AND add 10m in coins, or you can pick thru the list of stuff I posted for sale and work out a deal.

Heroism is about the best spell out there value wise, its useful to every single person that does anything except people that only pick locks or hang in courtyards, Of all the items I've owned or had a chance to buy not getting the 5x heroism is about my largest regret and thats saying alot when you think about it, I brokered the deal that got the Pitslasher to Blades, didnt bat an eyelash moving the weapon and dont regret it at all.
