So I just aquired this new computer for work and I want to set up dual monitors for it. I've got the onboard and an AGP vid card in it. I've got 2 21" monitors hooked up. I know by default when you toss an AGP in it disables the onboard. How do I get them both working at the same time?

I had to get a vid card with dual monitor support, there might be software that will do it, though I have no idea what it might be called or where to find it.

I think I'm going to try a PCI vid card vice the AGP and see if that makes a difference. Couldn't find anything on the bios on this one but maybe I haven't dug enough...

FYI this computer setup is sweet. A pair of 40 gig HDDs, 1 gig of DDR ram, DVD burner, CD burner, has my IPAQ on it and a 200gig USB2 external HDD full of music. And work is supposed to suck :)

A dual monitor setup isn't any different than a dual modem setup.

Nix the on board and plug in two identical vid cards. It should be pretty automated at that point. Providing they haven't changed how drivers and hardware are recognized and handled from 98 to XP.

you should be able to run a AGP card and the on board card. i have a mother board i use to do that with. probably is a setting in BIOS that will enable/disable you from running that

The bios on these won't let you enable an onboard with an AGP detected. No biggie I could have flashed the bios but didn't feel like it. I found a PCI vid card in one of the scrap computers so now I've got my two 21" running with no problem. It's sweet. Now to get my VPN to home working so I can have GS on one monitor and work on the other

How does having two monitors help? Just so you don't have to alt-tab between screens or something?

When i did it, i had 2 monitors, 1 hooked up to on board, one hooked up to my other video card, i just boot up ym computer, i used windows XP and the on board was my main monitor so i goto display settings in XP and you can activate the second and link it, i know that doesnt explain it very good, but reyek posted pictures of my dual monitors! It rocks having em.

Basically.

I've got some pretty large databases that I use side by side. This allows me to see all fields without having to move back and forth. I have one full screen on one monitor and one full screen on the other.

42" of viewing pleasure, that's alot of porn!

And porn is cheaper than dating or marriage.

If it dun have 800+ mhz fsb it isn't cool

and dual 30 gig 10k RPM's runnin raid is where its at, then throw in a 120 gig for storage.

Also, get a vid card with s-vid out, so you can run out to your tv, so you can watch all them ripped dvd's on your TV!

ALso... check out the prog called UltraMon, its great for dual monitor setups, lets you do different wall papers and screen savers ect... WAY better than windows setup.
