PS3 Yellow Light Of Death

Got this last night out of nowhere during a Super SF4 match of epic proportions. Never even knew this problem existed on PS3s.

So I just called Sony and for $150 I can either have them fix mine (I got the old 60GB model from 2006) or have them send me a 120gb PS3 Slim. I went with the slim since if I really wanted to play a PS2 game I can just hook up my PS2.

The really gay part is they have to send me a shipping box which will take like 10 business days just to get here, then I send my PS3 to them, they check it for abuse and all that shit, then they send me my new PS3 Slim, which will take another 2-3 weeks.

This would be far less gay if Red Dead Redemption wasn't coming out in a fucking week. FGHuiahgioarhgoarhgoiuaruhgoiaghoaiga

I'm tempted to go buy a new PS3 on the 18th, use it til I get my PS3 Slim from Sony, then return the one I bought and get a refund. Instead I'll probably just rent Red Dead on XBox in the meantime, though my Live membership is only Silver right now cause I never renewed it since I hardly ever touch my XBox, which by the way is 5 years old and still free of red rings of death.

I believe the $150 thing happens when your regular 1-year warranty expires...if it happens before that I believe the replacement is free. My PS3 still lasted through my friends getting about 3 Xbox's apiece...

Well, that's some bullshit.

I got the YLOD about two-three weeks before they released the slim. I ended up buying a new slim for $300. What you're telling me is that they'll send you a new slim for only $150 if you send them your busted PS3? Those fuckers owe me $150 bucks.

That's what they said. I should probably call again and double check to make sure it's not some refurbished bullshit or something. She said she's never heard of any Slims having problems yet though so I'd guess that would mean it's a new one.

The really shitty part is I'm gonna lose all of my save game data. You can't back it up unless the PS3 is working, and even then, a lot of saved game data is encrypted to that specific hard drive, meaning I'd still lose it anyway.

No way in hell I'm starting FF 13 over again.

You ain't lyin'. That pretty much sucked. And there are quite a few games I was nearly finished with that I'll probably never play again because of that.
