Mechanically speaking which would be better at keeping me alive:

4x MBP with a set of the HCP armor accessories

4x Fullplate

Ditch the accessories and get either set of armor padded.

Depends on how hard you get hit. What's relevant is the head/neck crit divisor, which is 9 in MBP and 11 in full plate. So if you take an end roll of 200 with say a handaxe, that is 21 raw damage and a 1.91 crit level in full plate. In MBP you would have an equivalent crit level with 17 raw damage, so the HCP would be better (reducing crit damage by more than 4). The harder you get hit though, the better the full plate will be.

does not wearing the armor accessories bring the crit divisor up? I have chausess, vambraces, and a warhelm that covers the neck and head. All hare HCP.

The helm is spiked too. Which CMAN does that help with?

Yes. Padded partial armor will provide padding on area of coverage even when worn over full coverage unpadded armor. In this case there would be HCP on all areas except the torso (chest, back and abdomen).

I second wearing the full plate with the accessories.

You'll get more benefit lightening the full plate + accessories than MBP + accessories.
