View Full Version : Minor victories

Okay, this is purely an exercise in giving myself props, so feel free to completely ignore it. :)

I gave up real cokes three weeks ago. I've been drinking diet Dr Pepper, ice tea, and lots of water. A week into that, I renounced chips and snacky stuff. Other than that, I haven't really limited what I've been eating, other than to put it on a smaller plate. Gary's started a low carb diet in the last 10 days, so when we've been together for meals, I've tended to avoid carbs.

I thought I was doing pretty well with this, because my clothes are fitting differently...I got on the scales at work this morning, and I've dropped 20 pounds. Not only that, one of my co-workers said to me this morning, unsolicited, "Have you been losing weight? Your face looks thinner."

I know I could blow this at any minute and this would have all been for nothing, but today? I feel pretty good. :) I'm never ever ever going to be a svelte size 5 or anything, but it would be nice to be average.

20 lbs in 3 weeks is awesome, took me about 6 months to lose 40 lbs on the low carb/diet soda diet. I get compliments all the time from people at work who haven't seen me in awhile, which is cool.

Now to drop that last 20 lbs :)

Ylena,

I know you get a lot of shit for the way you look, but I think you're an absolutely beautiful person. You enjoy life, I hope you get what you want and you're still that same happy person. Good luck!

I don't have to lose weight.. but I too swore off coke. Empty calories. Now I drink water, diet coke, diet mountain dew and diet mountain dew red.

Sugar free has come a long way. No horrible aftertaste as it once had.

I started running this morning. Did 50 situps, and ran a mile. I figure for starting cold that's not that bad?

I dunno, it's mid afternoon now and I'm not even feeling sore. I think I'm gonna up it to two miles tomorrow.

Only 50...? Make sure you're doing them right, too...so that you can feel your stomache tighten and then unwind for every one you do. You can do hundreds of them and it won't do anything for you if you don't do them right.

I hate running, biking works so many more muscle groups. And it doesn't suck as much.

I don't have a stationary bike. Hell, I don't even have a real bike, any more.

I figure I can get the exercise bit down, the dieting part is what'll kill me.

P.S. Ed, I know how to do a sit up! I just did 'em as a warm up.

Woooo!!

Good for you Ylena, hon!!

I'm down 39 pounds, I only drink water and diet soda nowadays, and have taken to an exercise routine. I'm not skinny by any means, but I'm down 4 sizes..:)

So, keep it up. Even a little bit helps to make you feel better.

Congrats Ylena. You should be an example to me but I'm of the food religion that believes in eating anything and everything I see. My will power towards food is slight to none, then again I tell myself that I need to take in alot of calories for the weight lifting I do....to bad they aren't good calories.

Heh, dieting sucks...I've lost 6 lbs in the last week and a half. I have a little less than 6 weeks to drop another 18 lbs for beach week so that I'm back down to 170. I like being lanky more than I like being filled out.

EDIT: I cut out soda entirely, no diet or anything. It's just water, apple juice or orange juice now. As for food I just changed how much I ate, not really what I ate. I was probably downing about 1500 calories just at lunch, hehe.

The problem is I have low blood pressure. Don't eat enough, and I get dizzy, eat too much, and my family's infamously slow metabolism kicks in. I hate it.

Thats wonderful Ylena.

Soda's a great place to start and evidently the results are bearing that out for you.

Keep up the great work.

The few times I've met you, Ylena, I've thought you were a beautiful person on both sides of the coin. If this makes you happier, it can only make you more beautiful! Cheers.

That's great Ylena! 20 pounds lost is a major victory! Giving up the chips is also a huge victory! Your post is inspiring me to cut back on these things. I hate dieting, but eliminating foods may be a good way to start!

Crystal lite orange tastes just like Tang without the calories and no carbs if you are watching that! Now that is good stuff. I highly endorse all Crystal lite drinks!

I don't think I could have kicked leaded soda's without em.

You all are entirely too sweet. I absolutely appreciate all the kind words and encouragement -- more than you know.

Anticor, I hear you. There's a limit to what I'm willing to give up, definitely. Butter isn't going anywhere. I can live with diet soda. Ain't nuthin' that tastes like butter.

It's been an interesting three weeks. I really can't tell you what even made me start this. It sort of happened because I ran out of coke and was too unmotivated to go get anymore... and after one coke-less day, I was already going to get the withdrawal headaches anyway, so why not just quit altogether for awhile.

I had my stomach stapled 10 years ago this month. Even though I've gained a lot more back than I wanted, I'm still about 120 pounds down from what my peak was. Though I haven't been disciplined about what I was eating, I still can't eat any more than about a cup and a half of food at one sitting. If I drink anything with it, it's even less. Cutting out cokes and chips/chocolate and other easily consumable high-calorie foods makes a huge difference for me. I can't really say I've been hungry at all, either. I've just got a really fucked up relationship with food.

Don't laugh, but I have a phobia about doing this, too. I'm fairly fortunate in that I truly don't look as old as I am. I'm going to be 41 in May. I have no wrinkles. No fine lines around the eyes, no creases around the mouth, none of that. So now, I'm paranoid that if I drop a bunch of weight, I'm all of a sudden going to wrinkle and look like I'm 55. Heh. Which is pretty stupid, because my parents are both mid-60s and don't look a day over 50.

Guess I'll do lots of moisturizer and hope for the best. :)
