I been swinging a 4x maul lately, but I hunted with a guy who swings an imflass claidhmore and he put me very much to shame.

Whats better in the mid levels? Open killing with a +10-12 claid? Or a +17 perfect maul that I can aim? What kind of maul can one get with 8-10mil?

I just sold a 6x perfect maul for 9m... the same price i paid for it a few months back.

It really comes down to taste when choosing between mauls, mattocks and claids. Mauls you can swing a little faster.. 9 second for 3+ mstrikes, whereas a claid is 10 seconds. I imagine you can aim a maul a little bit better, but with just 30 ranks of ambush, I hit what I'm open aiming for with my claid about 70% of the time, which is enough for me.

I switch between an 8x (not player forged) maul and a +17 claidhmore, and I usually prefer the claid, unless I'm hunting something wearing MBP or heavier.

A maul is nice for hunting a lot of stone creatures levels 40 through whatever in stronghold, but i find a claid to be nicer against things like troll kings, yeti, and minotaurs.

I will be switching to a perfect maul with flares (probably vibe) sometime in the near future, but this is mostly due to boredom and not for mechanical reasons.

PA is kinda misrepresented because it costs more to train in than THW for every class except warriors and bards. That being said, if you can afford the TPs and have the agi dex, which usually means your an elf, halfling, or gnome, then you should be PA. Especially since they removed puncture immunity. That is my opinion at least.
