This is great news for pretty much everyone if this company gets off the ground. Fuel cells are about as clean an energy source as you can get with existing technology, and if these things become economically viable for homes they will literally do away with the power grid system of distribution we currently use.

Beats the hell out of RTG's for space exploration as well, and both Ford and Honda are already working on fuel cell designs for cars.

I am curious as to what kind of fuel cell he is planning on producing though. I think the PEMFC is the one the DoE is currently focusing on for transportation, but the vehicles that Ford and Honda are playing around with use hydrogen wich has it's own problems. But the only by-product of these is pure water...so not such a bad thing.

I am confused by your comment. Fuel Cells have the capability, [B]using existing technology[B], to do away with having to plug into the power grid for electricity, as well as replacing your furnace, and hot water heater.

Because they operate at between 140 - 176 degrees, the waste heat can be used to heat your home. The only thing they produce as a byproduct is HOT water, thus doing away with your water heater. And, if combined with a hydrogen seperator, they can literally be run off your water line, wich requires no effort, or cost to install for you. Add in a bank of batteries to store excess energy produced during off-peak hours, or when your not using a lot of electricity, and you have that electicity available for when you are using a lot of power.

So in one unit you have a system that powers your house, heats your house, and produces hot water. All off of the water line. Again, no gas needed, no needing to hook up to a municipal power grid, and no gas/electrical bills.

I can see where this would not fit your lifestyle... really...

This technology would not work in my igloo.

You'd need to understand the picture reference he made, from Quantum of Solace... sigh.

Ah, that explains it. I dislike James Bond movies/books. Think I actually read most of one Ian Fleming novel, and the last JB movie I saw was...uhmmm... with Sean Connery... So, yeah.. not a big fan

I like to fire guns wildly within my home, I don't want the possibility of a stray bullet causing a massive explosion, that would cramp my lifestyle.
